NYT Reporter on NBC: If Trump Was President, He Would Let Russia Invade Ukraine

March 13th, 2022 12:44 PM

If you were watching NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, you received your daily dose of liberal bias and alternative history. Which is to say it was your typical episode. During the panel segment, host Chuck Todd and his guests discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, when New York Times Pentagon correspondent Helene Cooper decided to speculate what the situation in Europe would be like if former President Donald Trump was still in office.

After airing a soundbite of the former President at a rally he held in South Carolina in which Trump said if he was still President, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine, Cooper was clearly triggered.

“I would love to just game out where we would be right now if Donald Trump was still President and Vladimir Putin had invaded Ukraine” Cooper interjected. “First of all, Trump would already have pulled us out of NATO because that's what he wanted to do. He already started pulling American troops out of Europe. The Pentagon kind of stalled out until Biden came into office.”

Cooper continued her alternative history-filled rant claiming that Trump would’ve said “it's not our problem, Ukraine is not our problem, that's it, go off and do -- this is not our business, and NATO, at this point, would have been completely divided. You would see disunity, you would see other NATO countries peeling off.”

She ended her fantasy by demanding people don’t listen to Trump: “let's make sure when Trump is saying this stuff about how much differently -- if Donald Trump was President right now would be in a completely different place.”

How is this journalism? The job of a journalist is to find out the facts and report them to people. The job isn’t to make up scenarios that can never be proven one way or another. But this is the New York Times we’re talking about so nobody should be surprised that one of their reporters is telling cooking up such stories on national television.

This biased segment was made possible by Liberty Mutual. Their information is linked so you can let them know about the biased news they fund.

HELENE COOPER:  I would love to just game out where we would be right now if Donald Trump was still President and Vladimir Putin had invaded Ukraine. First of all, Trump would already have pulled us out of NATO because that's what he wanted to do. He already started pulling American troops out of Europe. The Pentagon kind of stalled out until Biden came into office. The first thing he would have said is, it's not our problem, Ukraine is not our problem, that's it, go off and do -- this is not our business, and NATO, at this point, would have been completely divided. You would see disunity, you would see other NATO countries peeling off, what are we gonna do? The alliance would be broken. Let's make sure when Trump is saying this stuff about how much differently -- if Donald Trump was President right now would be in a completely different place.
