Scarborough Snarls at Voters Who ‘Don’t Care’ About Trump’s ‘Lies’

It is no secret that Joe Scarborough has a profound antipathy for President Donald Trump. (And though he is ashamed now, Scarborough was a big Trump fan in 2015 and into 2016.) Thursday on Morning Joe, he put his contempt on full display by attacking Republican voters who have moved on from the Mueller Report's findings and want Congress to end the partisan investigations.

The MSNBC host began a long diatribe in which he oozed contempt for Trump supporters in middle America: “I know that people in middle America, we're told, don’t really care about the fact that the President obstructed justice, and they don't really care about the fact that the President won't turn over his tax returns.”

Essentially, Scarborough complained that voters didn't care about what he thought was important:

They don’t really care about the fact that we have an Attorney General who commits perjury all the time, who lies all the time, who is actually lying about how the Mueller investigation started and is lying that it had everything to do with the Steele dossier. I mean, we're told that most Americans just don't care about lying. But for Democrats, isn't it important that they be the champion of the belief in a no man is above the law. Let's just strip it down to that. No man is above the law. And, yeah, they're not going to get a bridge in their district to throw away the concept that no man is above the law.

As if that wasn't enough, he later referred to Trump as a "horse in a hospital" and said that Republicans support Trump making the country weaker:

Donald Trump, as somebody has said, is a horse in a hospital. You open up the doors. You're saying, well, he's shaking things up. Yes. Just like if you put a horse in the hospital. And as John Delaney said, why did you let the horse in the hospital and the answer was, oh, because it was inefficient. Yesterday was the horse racing toward the NICU. And you all can still sit out there wherever you are going Donald Trump shaking things up. Yeah, just like a horse in a hospital. It makes no sense. If you’re supporting Trump for doing nothing, making the country weaker at home and across the world and for actually trying to undermine the basic American value that no man is above the law, then good luck with that.

Scarborough suggested, without evidence, that the administration was hiding the issue of children dying at the border from the American people; he repeated the lie that Attorney General Bill Bar committed perjury before the House Judiciary Committee, something National Review, CNN, The Washington Post, and Salon all agree did not occur. He claimed that President Trump obstructed justice even though the Mueller Report could not conclude that he did so; and he concurred with Nancy Pelosi's unsubstantiated claim that the President engaged in a cover-up, even though the Mueller Report found no underlying crime.

A recent CBS News poll, found that most Americans think Democrats should move on from the investigations and "move to other issues." Scarborough once again shows his utter disconnect from why millions of Americans, especially in the middle of the country, voted for President Trump in the first place.

Morning Joe

5/23/19

6:07 AM ET

MIKA BRZEZINKSI: Yes, I can. I can imagine. This is all what's happening because of exactly what he's done.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well, because he's -- right now he is the least transparent President in the history of the United States. And it's clear he covered up time and time again on both large and small things. Unfortunately, more reports of children dying at the border, of that fact being kept from the American people. More reports of courts overturning the President’s decision to to intentionally obstruct investigations that are being conducted right now by the oversight committee which has a constitutional duty to do just that. This week also yet another court ordering yesterday that Deutsche Bank has to turn over financial records that, again, that not only Donald Trump but his family tried to cover up, tried to obstruct and yet another investigation. For Democrats, they can talk about all the different investigations and I know that people in middle America were told don’t really care about the fact that the President obstructed justice, and they don't really care about the fact that the president won't turn over his tax returns, and they don’t really care about the fact that we have an Attorney General who commits perjury all the time, who lies all the time, who is actually lying about how the Mueller investigation started and is lying that it had everything to do with the Steele dossier. I mean, we're told that most Americans just don't care about lying. But for Democrats, isn't it important that they be the champion of the belief in a no man is above the law. Let's just strip it down to that. No man is above the law. And, yeah, they're not going to get a bridge in their district to throw away the concept that no man is above the law.

...

JOE SCARBOROUGH: In 2016, what did he say? He said I'm a deal maker. I can get things done. Nobody else can get thing done. We’re gonna build a wall and Mexico is gonna pay for it. Believe me. He's proven himself to be ineffective, a liar. He's not a deal maker. He was going to shake-up Washington and bring everyone together, he said it was easy, he couldn’t do it. He said healthcare was easy, he couldn't do it. He said building a wall was easy, he couldn't do it.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: How about gaffs with Russia, North Korea and now the drum beat of war with Iran.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: He hasn't done it. Given, lets underline this simple fact. Republicans had a monopoly of power Donald Trump’s first two years in Washington and none of this has gotten done. So people out there that are saying I like Trump because he can get -- no, no. He's not getting anything done. You say he's shaking thing up, yeah, just like putting a horse in a hospital. Donald Trump, as somebody has said is a horse in a hospital.
