CNN's Camerota Bristles at Newsmax Boss Calling Her Out As 'Liberal Media'

January 4th, 2018 11:57 PM

On Thursday's New Day on CNN, just two hours after her show came down decidedly on the liberal side of the issues of voter fraud and disenfranchisement, CNN host Alisyn Camerota denied that her show is part of the "liberal media" when Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy took a jab at her while defending President Donald Trump.

As Ruddy appeared on the show to discuss Michael Wolff's book about the Trump White House, Camerota at one point brought up the President's tweets about North Korea and recalled that some have been made "very nervous" by them. Ruddy argued that, although he has reservations about the President sending out unfiltered tweets, he believes that using Twitter has helped the President counteract media bias, and included her as part of the "liberal media."

Ruddy: "I've always said that the President should have a review process -- they should not just send out tweets. That's his approach -- he won -- he feels he has to reach out because he feels the media -- the liberal media, including yourself, Alisyn -- are not fair to him all the time."

Camerota responded: "That -- Chris, I see you laughing. We have, I mean, you should watch our show more often."

After Ruddy joked, "I don't want to accuse you this early in the morning," Camerota added: "You should watch our show more often in terms of all the perspectives we have on."

Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Thursday, January 4, New Day on CNN:

8:39 a.m. ET

ALISYN CAMEROTA: You seem to be glossing over the sort of impulsive tweets. Lots of people are worried about what he's doing with Kim Jong-Un and North Korea. He's shaking up foreign policy in a way that makes people very nervous, so does it make you nervous that the people in his inner sanctum might are telling Michael Wolf that he's incapable of functioning in his job?

CHRIS RUDDY, NEWSMAX: Well, I like, you know, a lot of these people who are being quoted in that book are no longer in the White House. They're not in the inner sanctum. When you talk about North Korea, I take a lot of confidence that we have a lot of people like General Mattis, General McMaster, General Kelly, I think these are very good men that have a very long, broad breadth of experience.

The President's put them in very key positions, so I don't think the country -- I have concern about Twitter. I've always said that the President should have a review process -- they should not just send out tweets. That's his approach -- he won -- he feels he has to reach out because he feels the media -- the liberal media, including yourself, Alisyn -- are not fair to him all the time.

CAMEROTA: That -- Chis, I see you laughing. We have, I mean, you should watch our show more often.

RUDDY: I don't want to accuse you this early in the morning.

CAMEROTA: I appreciate that. You should watch our show more often in terms of all the perspectives we have on, but I want to ask you about this excerpt --

RUDDY: Well, actually, I think you guys are very fair, and that's why I come on your show.

CAMEROTA: Thank you,

RUDDY: I do think you're fair.

CAMEROTA: Thank you -- I appreciate that.
