New Low for Journalism in America: Jorge Ramos Receives Award for Excellence in TV Political Journalism

RESTON, Va — On Friday morning, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell and MRC Latino Director Ken Oliver-Mendez released the following statements in reaction to Fusion/Univision anchor Jorge Ramos receiving the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political Journalism.

Brent Bozell, President, Media Research Center

“Jorge Ramos has openly proclaimed the need for ‘journalists’ to go after President Trump and fight the President’s political agenda, and for that he gets an award from the ‘objective’ press. And journalists wonder why poll after poll has their credibility in the toilet.

This man doesn’t deserve a prize for political journalism, but for political activism, as one of the worst of the worst. Instead of meeting at the National Press Club to celebrate him, journalists should be meeting to censure him, for being an impostor.”

Ken Oliver-Mendez, Director, MRC Latino

“The last thing Jorge Ramos should be receiving is an award for excellence in political journalism. Especially when Ramos has already admitted that he got so much wrong in his political coverage during 2016. Ramos delivered the indictment himself when he said during a speech at Harvard last month that “as journalists, we’re supposed to report reality as it is, but we were not seeing reality.”

Ramos was not seeing reality because, as MRC Latino repeatedly exposed throughout the election and the Wikileaks email dumps of their communications also confirmed, he and his network, from the highest levels on down, were hell-bent on manipulating their viewers in favor of the Democrats, colluding with the Clinton campaign and constantly demonizing Donald Trump.

The record shows Jorge Ramos did nothing in his 2016 political coverage but a historic disservice to the audience to whom he was supposed to provide unaligned and undistorted news. The good news is that more viewers than ever see entirely through him, and the proof came on Election Day, when millions of Hispanics throughout the country roundly rejected his anti-Trump agenda and helped elect Donald Trump to the White House.”
