‘BAD OPTICS’: Spanish Nets HIDE News of Reopened Cages for Migrant Kids

February 3rd, 2021 6:44 PM

The Latino nets devote massive amounts of air time to push for the so-called Biden-Harris immigration reform, but have hidden one startling development from their viewers: the reopening of detention facilities for migrant children at Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Now repackaged as an 'Overflow Facility for Unaccompanied Children,' the opening - “comes amid an increase in apprehensions of unaccompanied children on the Southwest border, fueled in part by deteriorating conditions in Latin America and a perceived possible relaxation of enforcement,” as CNN reported today.

As the Spanish-speaking media chose to ignore unfavorable news in lieu of furthering their campaign to open the border, the rhetoric backfired at Univision's morning show, Despierta America. The network’s immigration lawyer admitted, on-screen, that “opening the border presents an optic problem for the United States”. Ironically, the segment featured shots of migrant children crammed inside the Obama-Biden cages.

SATCHA PRETTO: "I'm not making new law, I'm eliminating bad policies," those were the words of president Biden as he signed three executive orders on immigration. To understand their scope, we go live in Phoenix, Arizona, to immigration attorney Ezequiel Hernandez. First, tell us what changes and what doesn't change after the signing of these executive orders.

(....)

HERNANDEZ: Well, we must be clear that there were three orders; one to reunite families, the other to change immigration laws in terms of policies, and the latter focuses on asylum. But all three give only generic directives, and nothing changes today.

(....)

HERNANDEZ: But they want you to know those things, I don't know if that gives the president a bad image, but I don't that think they know specifically what they want to do, because opening the United States border does represent a political problem of bad optics.

In addition to hiding the reopening of the holding facilities at Carrizo Springs, the Univision report justified the growing chaos at the Southern Border with this closing statement: “Joe Biden is seeing that the issue with immigration is bigger and more difficult, as past administrations in the United States have experienced.” No kidding.

Makes sense since given that the liberal Spanish-speaking networks, instead of serving the public as providers of the news, gave themselves over to the task of providing their captive audiences with endless pro-Biden propaganda.

Univision's Despierta America
February 3, 2021

SATCHA PRETTO: "I'm not making new law, I'm eliminating bad policies," those were the words of president Biden as he signed three executive orders on immigration. To understand their scope, we go live in Phoenix, Arizona, to immigration attorney Ezequiel Hernandez. Ezequiel, thank you for joining us.

EZEQUIEL HERNANDEZ: Thank you, Satcha.

PRETTO: First, tell us what changes and what doesn't change after the signing of these executive orders.

HERNANDEZ: Well, we must be clear that there were three orders; one to reunite families, the other to change immigration laws in terms of policies, and the latter focuses on asylum. But all three give only generic directives, and nothing changes today. A team was asked to investigate what types of policies and changes can be made in the future. So he signed these orders and there's nothing specific. And for people in general, nothing changes today.

PRETTO: And what about people on the other side of the border waiting for an answer for their asylum application in Mexico?

HERNANDEZ: Right. The MPP program was one of the issues discussed in the conversation with the White House two days ago. That conversation inquired about MPP, about what was going to be done with these people, and whether or not they were going to let them in and even now this administration has mentioned the intention to return, perhaps that population of people- they are expecting that they will not be included, and instead of coming into the United States, they are being told to wait for their asylum. But they want you to know those things, I don't know if that gives the president a bad image, but I don't that think they know specifically what they want to do, because opening the United States border does represent a political problem of bad optics.

PRETTO: Well, we're obviously seeing an effort by this administration to reunite those children separated from their parents under zero tolerance policy. You would say that it is not enough and, moreover, this represents a small percentage in terms of the migration problems that the United States has. Tell us.

HERNANDEZ: Yes, it's important. I agree with the president that it was a stain of the Trump administration on American history. It has a very, very low percentage of impact on the immigration problem. People were waiting for an expansion of DACA, for example; two, the administrative closure of certain courts where people were already in the immigration process, and also not calling the people who brought their children from outside to the United States as minors, as human traffickers and then blocking them in an immigration process, those specific things are what touch people. The only order that has come out immediately was that of cancelling deportation for 100 days, and now Texas blocked it. So now, President Biden is seeing that the issue of immigration is much bigger and more difficult, as other administrations have already experienced in the United States.
