Hollywood Hypocrite: Scarlett ‘Politics Is Not My Job’ Johansson

Oh now Scarlett Johansson wants to stay out of politics. That’s great because to this point all she’s done is regurgitate lefty conventional wisdom and puff lefty candidates.

In a recent interview with The Gentlewoman, the actress said that political discourse is “not my job.” As Bounding Into Comics mentioned, Johansson ranted on about how actors should stay in their own lane and do what they’re paid to do --- act.

I don’t think actors have obligations to have a public role in society … You didn’t choose to be a politician, you’re an actor. Your job is to reflect our experience to ourselves; your job is to be a mirror for an audience, to be able to have an empathetic experience through art. That is what your job is.

It’s ironic that this issue of The Gentlewoman came out just before her newest movie. Johansson was probably worried about the cancel vultures and wanted to cover her tracks. She’s never before had qualms about giving and forcing her own political opinions down other people’s throats.

In October, she assembled with other Avengers co-stars for a Joe Biden fundraiser. Not to mention she’s a BIG fan of abortion and has no problem glorifying it and supporting Planned Parenthood. It should also be noted that she’s even expressed interest in running for a political office in the future. So this recent claim for actors to just do their job is a bunch of nonsense coming from her … she should listen to her own words of advice.

Whatever my political views are, all that stuff, I feel most successful when people can sit in a theatre or at home and disappear into a story or a performance and see pieces of themselves, or are able to connect with themselves through this experience of watching this performance or story or interaction between actors or whatever it is … They have an emotional reaction to it – good, bad, uncomfortable, validating, whatever. That’s my job. The other stuff is not my job.

If the other stuff (politics) is not her job then why is she so outwardly vocal about it?

In the same interview with The Gentlewoman, Johansson painted the picture of the relief she felt when Biden “won.” Supposedly she “couldn’t sleep” when Trump was in the lead but after Biden “won,” she told The Gentlewoman, “You could hear people losing their minds outside, and I just cried. It was a pretty crazy reaction. Oh my God, it’s over. It felt like the end of a war, you know?”

Well at least she clearly mastered drama class.

As a patron of the cancel culture chopping block, Johansson better watch out. In 2014 she was cut from an eight-year-long partnership with Oxfam (a charity company that opposes Israel’s West Bank settlements) and SodaStream (Israeli owned company with West Bank settlements). She faced backlash in 2018 and stepped down from playing a real-life transgender man in light of “ethical questions.” And she was once slammed for “whitewashing” a film in 2019 when she played a Japanese character.

In an effort to claim moral high ground, Johansson fails to realize she’s too late. She’s already left her lane and is now just another Hollywood hypocrite.
