New Filter Blocks Trump News: ‘Make Him An Internet Refugee’

Anti-Trump protesters are still going strong, summoning their creativity to fan the flames of resistance. One recent idea: make Trump an “internet refugee” on Feb. 20.

When 21-year-old Emily Kaufman got fed up with the media’s focus on Donald Trump, she created an extension to block all mentions of the president from her newsfeeds.

"Trump was everywhere and I needed a break," Kaufman, the daughter of a Hollywood producer, said. "The idea was, 'What if we make him into an internet refugee for a day?’”

After two weeks of work and a $50 investment, Kaufman’s free filter, “A Wall Against Trump,” went live. “Trump wants to make people into outcasts,” Kaufman wrote on her new website. “We'll make him into one too.”

Several celebrities, including the virulently anti-Trump Rose McGowan, have already downloaded the plug-in.

“The wimpy quote-unquote men who control the cable news networks have been too scared to stand up to the misogynist-in-chief,” McGowan told The Hollywood Reporter. “It gives me great pleasure to know that a young girl has figured out how to ban him from our most precious border, the border of our minds.”

Although the filter can operate for an extended period of time, Kaufman doesn’t want people to disconnect from important current events. She recommends using it for Feb. 20 – her self-proclaimed “One Day Without Trump.”

Creating these “Days Without” seem to be a new trend within the progressive community. Today, February 16, has been dubbed “A Day Without Immigrants,” and is marked by business closures, strikes and rallies. The organizers of the Women’s March have also planned “A Day Without Women” for March 8.
