EWTN Pro-Life News Show to ‘Untangle Lies’ of Abortion Industry

March 3rd, 2017 3:26 PM

In the past, the liberal media have either spun or omitted their coverage of abortion and the pro-life movement. But now there’s a new media source to turn to: EWTN’s Pro-Life Weekly.

On Friday, the EWTN Global Catholic Network, together with Susan B. Anthony List, will launch a half-hour weekly program to engage viewers with pro-life news while promoting a culture of life. Beginning March 3, EWTN Pro-Life Weekly will air each week at 11 p.m. EST Fridays, 10 a.m. EST Sundays and 3 a.m. EST Mondays.

In an exclusive comment to MRC Culture, Catherine Szeltner, the host of Pro-Life Weekly, emphasized that Americans should know the truth about abortion in this country.

“The fact that there are over 1 million abortions being performed in the United States each year is a shocking statistic that should be making consistent news headlines,” she began. “ Life is being attacked on both ends, considering nearly half of U.S. states are introducing assisted suicide legislation this year alone.”

EWTN, she added, is “unapologetically pro-life from conception until natural death” and “has the freedom to speak boldly on protecting life” – unlike the broadcast networks and others in the media.

“My hope is that EWTN Pro-Life Weekly will put a light on these tough topics in a way other networks won’t nor can’t do in order to build a culture of life,” she added. “I also hope pro-lifers are encouraged to know they are not alone in their views, despite what mainstream media would have you think.”

“The world is filled with people who want to passionately defend life,” she concluded. “I hope this program can be a platform of unity for the pro-life cause so we can work together to change both laws and culture.”

Providing a taste of what’s to come, the program premiered in a special Jan. 26:

From the beginning, Szeltner, who first began at EWTN as a correspondent, outlined her show’s priorities to viewers.

“Here we will delve into the most recent updates and pro-life news and legislation,” she stressed in the special, “and untangle the lies and myths pushed forward by the abortion and assisted suicide industry” while “recognizing the dignity of life from conception until natural death.”

According to Szeltner, 2017 “will be an important [year] for pro-lifers.” “There’s a new administration, new lawmakers in town, and new opportunities for the pro-life movement,” she explained.

Her show already promises to attract national attention, boasting guests like SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser and former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on Jan. 26 as well as Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) on March 3.

In a January press release, Szeltner envisioned the show as the “authoritative resource for the latest pro-life news.” EWTN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael P. Warsaw also expressed excitement.

“Despite the fact that there are many signs of hope, our culture continues to chip away at the right to life from conception to natural death,” he said. “‘EWTN Pro-Life Weekly’ not only seeks to inform, but also to show viewers how to engage everyone from their friends and neighbors to their elected representatives on the life issues.”

For her part, Dannenfelser was “thrilled” about partnering with EWTN for the show.

“SBA List will bring our political insight, legislative analysis, as well as relationships with legislators and members of the media to help create a dynamic, must-watch program,” she said. “Viewers will meet the key players, see what they see, and become a part of the grassroots army engaged in high-stakes fights.”
