‘Family Guy’ Mocks Emmys, ‘Transparent’ in the Perfect Way

October 2nd, 2017 12:38 AM

The Season 16 premiere of Fox’s Family Guy aired Sunday, October 1 with an episode titled “Emmy Winning Episode.” The show has never won an Emmy Award (although creator Seth MacFarlane has won Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for the show) and Peter Griffin decides it's time to change that. He goes about trying to make changes to the show specifically with an Emmy in mind. It was a perfect mockery of all that is wrong with today’s television.

In order to receive a nomination for Best Actor, Peter poses as a transgender woman, like Jeffrey Tambor's character in Amazon Prime’s Transparent. He orders a wig and dress from Amazon and tells the actress who is playing his wife - Gloria from ABC’s Modern Family (Sofia Vergara). His real wife, Lois, plays the delivery person. Then, he begins to let the rest of his family know of his decision.

Lois: Package for Peter Griffin.

Peter: Thank you, unknown delivery woman.

Lois: Forget the freaking Emmy. If you touch her ass, I will...

Gloria: "Amazon." Ay, my Uncle Alejandro lives in the Amazon. Do you think he has sent us shoes made from banana leaves?

Peter: Boy, the, uh, the ethnic characters on these Emmy-winning shows aren't exactly rocket scientists, are they?

Tracy Morgan: I don't know what you talkin' about, Liz Lemon.

Peter: No, this is something I ordered, for me. I am a woman and always have been. I've got plans to undergo surgery so my wang don't get in the way of the woman what I am.

Gloria: Ay, Dios Mio.

Peter: Lois, I'll still be a parent to our children. But now I'll be a trans-parent. Get it? Transparent? Clever pun, right? Please, honor me for my courage.

Stewie: I think gender-reassignment surgery is very brave and the fat man should win some kind of award for it.

Brian: The fat woman.

Stewie: He hasn't chopped it off yet.

Brian: That doesn't matter. Peter already identifies as a woman.

Stewie: And on karaoke night, I identify as George Michael. That doesn't mean it's true. Brian's just mad because he has to be the lady one.

Brian: Which makes you the one who's gay in real life.

Lily: Daddies, I'm standing here, delivering my line with more emotion and less of a monotone than the actual Lily on Modern Family.

Peter: I'm now confident enough to share my truth with the rest of my loved ones, beginning with my son, Chris.

Chris: Bazinga, father. Assuming father is still the appropriate designation.

Peter: What-what are you doing?

Chris: Waiting for the laugh to die down.

Peter: I'm here because I've decided to become the woman I am inside. Can you find it in your heart to accept me?

Chris: Oh, Dad, science has moved so far past binary gender construction. And if being a woman makes you happy, then in the words of Mr. Spock, "It's only logical."

Peter: Wow, I couldn't follow any of that, but look how smart your audience is.

Ostrich: Ha-ha.

Next, Peter goes to The Drunken Clam to spread the news to his drinking buddies. They were none too accepting of this drama. Peter goes to use the restroom and after looking at the doors labeling Men, Women and Transgender, chooses the Transgender one. He is heard saying, “Ew. I mean, Yay!” Oh, brother.

So, home again, he sobs in the bathroom and unknowingly faces Meg, who is in the bathtub eating cake, ala Lena Dunham in the 2012 Emmys.

Peter: I'm a big fat joke. No one takes me seriously.

Meg: I do, Dad. You've inspired me to nakedly eat this cake in a weird place. Thanks to you, I now believe in me. Me. M-e. I believe in m-e.

Peter: Okay, okay, all right. Don't want one that bad.

Off to the hospital Peter goes to talk to the doctor who will perform the snip-snip procedure on him. His name is Dr. Wang Gon. Yeah, a little too on the nose, right?

He admits to family and friends that it’s all for a comedy show award but the doctor isn’t willing to let him leave the office without doing the procedure.

Doctor: Peter, I'd like to introduce the surgeon who will perform your procedure today. Dr. Wang Gon.

Peter: Wow, I can't believe all you guys came out to support me. You guys aren't just the best friends I've ever had. You're also the best comedy.

Everyone: Aw. Aw. Aw.

Peter: Great job, everyone. If that don't get us the Emmy, nothing will.

Doctor Gon: Where do you think you're going?

Peter: Doc, I'm not actually going through with the operation. I'm going home.

Doctor Gon: We're doing this whether you like it or not.

Peter: Doc, no. Stop him! Somebody help!

Doctor Gon: You want the Emmy, don't you?

Peter: And that is how I became your mother.

Using Transparent was the perfect example to mock the leftist political correctness in Hollywood today. Without the elements of fluid sexuality and all the rest of the crazy demands of today’s liberals, there is no hope for a show to win a major award. Sad, but true in today’s America.
