From soft drink choices to fashion style, President Donald Trump just needs to burp and the fanatics over at CNN will be triggered into trying to concoct some pseudo-scandal out of it.
CNN Senior Writer Zachary Wolf spent 832 words of column space October 7 griping over Trump’s decision to wear a Jos. A. Bank suit, saying it flies right in the face of his persona as a “billionaire” and the face of “America First,” as if there was some sort of unwritten code for how affluent people should live, breathe, and dress.
“Trump’s cheap suit is out of character and awkward for a few reasons,” read Wolf’s stupid, slow news day headline. What’s even more telling was that Wolf’s first paragraph signaled that he knew he was being ridiculous, “The fact that President Donald Trump was photographed flashing a suit tag from a bargain brand of imported suits should not really be news.” Well, he’s right. It shouldn’t be news at all, so what are we even doing here with this controversial scavenger hunt, CNN?
Oh, but for Wolf, “But the fact that Trump, a billionaire, was photographed wearing a suit jacket with tags from Jos. A. Bank, the relatively inexpensive brand, is interesting for a number of reasons.” Pray, tell us, Wolf, what is so “interesting” that you felt the need to draft a whole conspira-noid piece about it? Never mind that the “super-rich” have a documented tendency to gravitate towards “understated dressing” from time to time, as the BBC conceded in 2023. But Wolf snooted, “It seems out of character.” Also, “It’s a bit awkward for his America First approach,” as if CNN is somehow the authority on what counts as “America First” vs. what doesn’t:
“Jos. A. Bank has an American Bespoke line, which is also advertised as being made in the USA, but the tags featured on the brand’s website differ from those flashed by Trump. That means Trump’s suit was likely made in China or Bangladesh — perhaps not the right message for a president who has promised the return of American manufacturing.”
Remember, Wolf gets paid to write piffle like this. Talk about making mountains out of molehills! Does he have the same issue with other billionaires with a significantly greater wealth pedigree than Trump like Bill Gates purposefully rocking “‘dull’ and ‘bland’” garb despite having a net worth of over $105 billion? Apparently so, because apparently it is so far beyond the pale for Wolf that a “man who bought his own private club at Mar-a-Lago [could] buy suits at the mall.”
But we’ve seen this kind of non-scandal script-writing from CNN before. In December 2017, CNN made a whole beef out of Trump’s apparent obsession with Diet Coke as some kind of hygienic offense. After briefly touching on developing news of a terrorist attack in New York City, CNN New Day co-host Alisyn Camerota immediately pivoted to kicking up a stink over Trump’s dietary habits based on an embellished New York Times hit-piece:
This is about his Diet Coke habit.... 'Watching cable, he shares thoughts with anyone in the room, even the household staff he summons via a button for lunch or for one of the dozen Diet Cokes he consumes each day' … When I read this, I think, ‘This is not what doctors would recommend. This is not the healthiest diet.’
Remember when @CNN kicked up a stink over Trump drinking Diet Coke? https://t.co/c07hr7B7qI

CNN's loathing of Trump will descend into the tiniest of matters. "Facts First," my foot.
