Ahhh the birther issue and the media. You just have to love the double standard. In the middle of all the Donald Trump birther ruckus, there is one small detail that seems to be going unmentioned. Here is the story as headlined by none other than the New York Times on February 28, 2008.

Appearing on the Friday edition of the Fox News Channel’s Your World, Media Research Center president Brent Bozell and host Neil Cavuto hammered the liberal media for their refusal to cover Democratic Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s latest lowering of American discourse as he used the Senate floor to declare Donald Trump to be “a human leech who will bleed the country.”

The superficial Nightline, a show that found time this week to cover the dilemma of pudgy pets, made time to fact check Ivanka Trump. This is the same program that has ignored ObamaCare (and all its problems) for nearly three years. Speaking of the hysterical outrage machine being turned up to a 10 after Donald Trump’s birtherism statement Friday morning, the pathetic behavior by the media continued into the afternoon as CNN host Ashleigh Banfield and media reporter Dylan Byers worried that Donald Trump and his supporters could undermine the media to the point that the country would look like Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. 

Needless to say, the media were besides themselves on Friday in turning up the outrage machine at Donald Trump for dragging out his birtherism statement and aside from his lack of an apology for perpetuating the asinine belief about President Obama, few were willing to own up to their role in going along with Trump’s media circus.

On Friday, both NBC’s Today and CBS This Morning blasted Donald Trump for refusing to respond to a question about whether President Obama was born in the United States and “fact-checked” his assertion that Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign actually first pushed the conspiracy theory. The journalists at CBS This Morning on Friday leapt to the defense of Hillary Clinton after she used entrance music by James Brown, the singer who died of pneumonia in 2006. Rather than see the awkwardness of this, as Clinton recovers from pneumonia, co-host Gayle King seemed irritated at colleague Norah O’Donnell for bringing it up. 

Well, Dick Cavett is still alive. That’s good to know. He’s also hale and hearty enough to pick up and run with the media’s double standard when it comes to the presidential candidates. CBS is still too embarrassed to share with viewers the low opinion Colin Powell has of Bill Clinton. On Wednesday, CBS This Morning edited a quote of hacked e-mails, removing Powell’s description of Mr. Clinton as a “a husband still dicking bimbos at home.” On Thursday morning, the network stuck to the script and avoided the comment.
