A federal investigation into Democrat Minnesota Congresswoman and Resistance™ favorite Ilhan Omar appears to be taking a political and reputational toll. The most evident proof of this is the Elitist Media’s reluctance to cover the story, if at all.
The NBC Nightly News was the only network broadcast to do anything on Omar, and it was an exercise in anti-news. Below the full report as aired on Thursday, October 29th, 2026:
The sole network newscast report on Ilhan Omar, via @NBCNightlyNews, was an exercise in anti-news. Viewers got a recap rehash of what is already on the record, but omitting NYT report of Obama admin first looking into Omar sham marriage. ABC and CBS omitted outright pic.twitter.com/hsgTZaiiZN

TOM LLAMAS: And back here at home, we have some new reporting on the investigation into Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that was once focused on whether she had a sham marriage with a man who may have been her brother. Here's Kelly O'Donnell.
KELLY O’DONNELL: New details tonight about an ongoing criminal probe of Somali-born Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Feverish political controversy has surrounded a past Omar marriage, and whether she had wed her brother in a scheme to get him a green card, a claim Omar has denied. However, tonight, a shift to something much larger in scope and no longer focused on the legality of that marriage. According to a source familiar with the investigation, the FBI searched her. Washington, D.C., home earlier this month and seized Omar's personal phone. Investigators have also obtained a phone belonging to at least one family member, according to a former official and a person with knowledge of the investigation. In a recent MS NOW interview, Omar was asked about that marriage.
CHRIS HAYES: He was not- you were not related to him at all.
ILHAN OMAR: Not that (unint)-
(CROSSTALK)
HAYES: There’s not some weird kernel of truth that (unint)
OMAR: Not to my knowledge.
O’DONNELL: The investigation has expanded into Omar's own immigration records, official documents and statements, according to a source familiar. Omar's spokesman said tonight ”it is clear to everyone that this is politically motivated and an escalation of Trump's personal vendetta against her.” Sources close to Omar say her legal team is filing a motion seeking the return of the Congresswoman's phone and belongings. Kelly O’Donnell, NBC News, Washington.
Kelly O’Donnell’s item broke no new ground in terms of the allegations against Ilhan Omar. Kelly O mentions the brother marriage and that investigations have expanded beyond that. But there are no specific details as to what those issues are, whether immigration or financial.
Furthermore, there is zero mention of the related bombshell published in The New York Times:
The federal investigation of Representative Ilhan Omar is focused in part on whether she entered into a sham marriage in 2009 to help a man suspected of being her brother obtain a green card, according to current and former officials familiar with the matter.
The F.B.I. and Department of Homeland Security investigated the marriage in summer 2016, during the Obama administration, and found some evidence that it was fraudulent, current and former officials said.
Speculation that Ms. Omar committed marriage fraud with a brother has shadowed the Minnesota Democrat’s political career for more than a decade and President Trump repeated the accusation last week. She has long called it a right-wing conspiracy theory that federal officials debunked during her first race for elected office in 2016.
It turns out that Ilhan Omar’s sham marriage was known to authorities, if you will. The Times goes on to note that the statute of limitations had expired on the crime of marriage fraud.
On nights like these, NBC’s bad reporting beats none at all from ABC and CBS. Both networks passed on updating the Omar story with the new reporting from the Times. CBS chose instead to lament that a WNBA championship game had to be played during lunch time. ABC ran a second day of the cruise ship that stranded their passengers in Cambodia. Both of these stories ran on A-block as the latest on Omar was suppressed.
