OMISSION: ABC, NBC, PBS Neglect the Illegal Migrant Invasion of Ceuta, Spain

The CBS Evening News eclipsed the rest of the Elitist Media Evening News by casting light on a viral but uncomfortable story: the illegal migrant invasion of Ceuta, Spain via its border with Morocco. ABC, NBC, and PBS refused to cover Ceuta on their evening newscasts.

Here is that report in its entirety, as aired on CBS Evening News on Thursday, July 29th, 2026:

 

 

MATT GUTMAN: We begin tonight with a rapidly escalating emergency overseas. A migrant crisis unfolding in North Africa turned deadly today, where thousands of men along with some women and children streaming on foot and by sea across the border into the tiny Spanish territory of Ceuta. Tonight, troops helping overwhelmed police control what’s being called a humanitarian emergency. Military divers deployed to search for bodies in the water. This is the area we are talking about. The closest point between Europe and Africa. The path to this part of Spain is a short one for migrants from Morocco hoping to eventually reach the rest of Europe. But it has-

Authorities are reporting nine dead tonight after thousands of migrants flooded a tiny Spanish enclave earlier today. Authorities were overwhelmed by sea and land, so many people that Spain had to mobilize its military. Officials say as many as 3000 migrants streamed in from Morocco into the tiny city of Ceuta in north Africa. A sea of people using inner tubes, flippers come and wetsuits, going around or even through that border fence. Some of them struggling in the water, hauled in by Spanish authorities. 

Spanish reporters right there on the scene. Officials say the city is now at a breaking point. Services are overwhelmed, and people are sleeping in the street. It's become one of Spain's largest border crises, possibly spurred by a recent Spanish Supreme Court decision ruling that migrants who arrived by sea cannot be sent back without due process. And it's not the first time this has happened. In 2021, more than 8000 people entered Ceuta in just two days. 

Now this has also touched on Europe's rawest political nerve: immigration and who is allowed to enter Europe and who is allowed to stay.

In this instance, CBS won by virtue of showing up. ABC couldn’t find time to cover Ceuta but did run the usual nonlethal aviation mishap story and closed out with corporate slop: Ben Affleck getting carried by some Jeopardy! champion on Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. NBC did do a Europe story on its A-block- George and Amal Clooney fleeing their French mansion due to the ongoing wildfires. No one else had the guts to cover Ceuta (and now Melilla, as well).

This isn’t to say that the item was flawless. Missing from the story is the particular set of incentives that drives North African migration into Spain. Per the Spanish government, in January:

 

The Council of Ministers has authorised the urgent processing of a royal decree to carry out an extraordinary regularisation process for foreign nationals already in Spain. The aim is to offer this group the opportunity "to live with equal rights," as well as to respond to "a reality that exists on our streets and has an impact on coexistence, well-being, and the economy", explained the Minister for Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration and Government Spokesperson, Elma Saiz. 

 

The plan called for full legalization of 500,000 illegal immigrants. France24 reports that there are now 1.2 million applications for legal status stuffed into the pipeline. The Spanish government, led by socialist Pedro Sánchez, has certainly created a perverse set of incentives for migrants thinking about jumping the fence at Ceuta or Melilla. In case that wasn’t clear enough, here is MEP Irene Montero openly hoping for replacement immigration in order to “sweep the fascists and racists” out of the country.

 

 

The more we know, the more the Ceuta invasion resembles our own border just four years ago. The same perverse incentives were in place, driven by a government that wanted to dramatically change the composition of the country via mass migration and subsequent amnesty. The Elitist Media were reluctant to look at the story until it became unavoidable. Credit to CBS for not looking away this time. Shame on everyone else.
