Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner continued his MS NOW tour on Wednesday when he joined The Briefing host Jen Psaki. Psaki marveled how Platner has been able to get “under Donald Trump’s skin” and repeatedly expressed indignation that Trump would dare to suggest Platner is not a beacon of morality.
Psaki began by wondering, “You've had quite a 24 hours. You're clearly under Donald Trump's skin. You could see that we played a sample of that. I think he called you a thug. I don't even know, repeatedly today, we played some of it, and he said, you are, quote, ‘worse than any human being that's ever run for office. Probably.’ What’d you think when you heard that?”
Platner replied that, “Well, coming from certainly the worst person to have ever run for office, I take it as an immense compliment.”

Psaki clearly wanted more, “I mean, it must feel pretty ludicrous to be lectured to your point by this president over morality.”
Turning to his stump speech, Platner insisted that he will be a Democrat who isn’t afraid to wield power for its own sake before claiming to run into some technical difficulties, “Yeah, it's a—look at the end of the day. It just comes down to the fact that Donald Trump knows that I'm going to go to the United States Senate to try to hold him and all of his corrupt cronies accountable. That's the entire point of this. I mean, we are building something up here in Maine that's going to allow us to retake the Senate for Democrats, but also retake the Senate with Democrats who really want to get in a fight. At the end of the day, these people have—what is happening?”
After Psaki informed him that she was not experiencing any such difficulties, Platner continued, “For some reason my computer went to sleep. Give me one second. Yeah, we're going to rebuild or we're going to retake the Senate with Democrats whose focus is not just getting back into power but getting back into power so we can wield it. We have to hold these people accountable. Donald Trump knows that we're going to, and he now is doing what he does, which is essentially, I think, throw temper tantrums, which is still probably the most embarrassing thing to see from a president of the United States.”
Again, Psaki lamented, “I mean, him questioning your morality is quite rich.”
She would proceed to put the ball on the tee for Platner to allow him to, once again, address his past. As for Psaki, however, for all of the criticisms of Trump’s character, nobody has ever accused him of getting a Nazi tattoo and then lying about not knowing what it was. Similarly, nobody has accused him of joining a messaging app that is notoriously popular with sexual predators who target children. More importantly, Graham Platner is not running against Donald Trump. He is running against Susan Collins, arguably the most moderate or liberal Republican in the Senate.
Here is a transcript for the June 10 show:
MS NOW The Briefing with Jen Psaki
6/10/2026
9:08 PM ET
JEN PSAKI: You've had quite a 24 hours. You're clearly under Donald Trump's skin. You could see that we played a sample of that. I think he called you a thug. I don't even know, repeatedly today, we played some of it, and he said, you are, quote, “worse than any human being that's ever run for office. Probably.” What’d you think when you heard that?
GRAHAM PLATNER: Well, coming from certainly the worst person to have ever run for office, I take it as an immense compliment.
PSAKI: What is it? I mean, it must feel pretty ludicrous to be lectured to your point by this president over morality.
PLATNER: Yeah, it's a—look at the end of the day. At the end of the day, these people have—what is happening?
PSAKI: We can still hear you. Go ahead.
PLATNER: Oh you can, sorry.
PSAKI: Yeah.
PLATNER: For some reason my computer went to sleep. Give me one second. Yeah, we're going to rebuild or we're going to retake the Senate with Democrats whose focus is not just getting back into power but getting back into power so we can wield it.
We have to hold these people accountable. Donald Trump knows that we're going to, and he now is doing what he does, which is essentially, I think, throw temper tantrums, which is still probably the most embarrassing thing to see from a president of the United States.
PSAKI: I mean, him questioning your morality is quite rich.
