If you’re wondering why trust in the media, especially leftist sources, has fallen to record lows over the last couple of years, you need only look to MS NOW’s Mika Brzezinski. On Monday’s Morning Joe broadcast, Brzezinski accidentally provided a perfect example of why no one trusts her or anyone like her who spends their days pontificating on the liberal networks, when she hypocritically claimed they were above telling lies to the public.
In her coverage of the Meet The Press interview between Kristen Welker and President Donald Trump that aired over the weekend, Brzezinski praised Welker’s pestering Trump as “a great, great, great effort,” but then subtly criticized Welker for allowing Trump to continue speaking at all:
But I would stop at the first lie. I wouldn't allow any lies on my program . . . You don't allow it. We can't have a complicit media. We can't be involved at all with spreading lies. We can't watch him tell lies and not call them out right away and stay with that first one, because they're all lies.
It’s hard not to laugh at that statement. For someone who touts herself as a journalist, it’s strange that Brzezinski said that, if she were the one interviewing Trump, she wouldn’t allow him to keep talking to her within the interview.
In fact, that is exactly what she and Joe Scarborough did in a 2015 on-air phone call with then-candidate Trump, when Joe Scarborough cut off Trump in the middle of his sentence and hung up the phone, refusing to let Trump answer any more questions.
Apparently, if the President of the United States takes time out of his very busy schedule to talk to the media, the interviewer is then entitled to interrupt, talk over, and cut off the President instead of actually letting him speak whenever he says something they disagree with.
But if that was the standard, where were these kinds of aggressive and confrontational interviews with Joe Biden or Barack Obama? Why didn’t Scarborough or Brzezinski ever yell at and hang up the phone on Hillary Clinton during that same 2015 presidential race?
The answer is obvious.
According to a 2025 Gallup Polls study, Americans’ confidence in the media to report “the news fully, accurately, and fairly” has fallen to just 28 percent, the lowest number since Gallup started tracking in 1972. Ratings of news networks like CNN, ABC, and MS NOW have also sharply declined, while FOX consistently trounces their viewership numbers. The undeniable cause of this decay is that when Brzezinski says her program “can’t be involved at all with spreading lies,” most Americans know she is lying to them at that very moment.
The obvious liberal bias in most mainstream media sources doesn’t end with the myriad of hostile exchanges with Republicans or others associated with the right. Lately, leftist media networks have been infamous for settling defamation cases with Trump and other figures, such as Dr. Mahendra Amin, who NBCUniversal settled with after erroneously dubbing him “the uterus collector.”
Before settling the lawsuit days before it was set to go to trial, comments from host Chris Hayes revealed how the network approached the truth. He said they chose the erroneous nickname because it “conjured the worst kind of like Third Reich, . . . sort of . . . Jim Crow, Mississippi Hospital history.”
Amin’s lead counsel and Georgia State Representative Stacey Evans (D) told NewsBusters last year that the network’s lies lead to death threats: “The fact that he received death threats, that he was being followed, that even when he wasn't being followed, he felt like he was being followed. He was compared to Nazi doctors experimenting on patients.”
These lawsuits that cost the networks tens of millions of dollars provide solid proof that the media is, in fact, in the business of spreading lies and being the Democrats’ favorite lapdog. No matter how objective or honest they claim to be, the only thing you can count on is that they will lie to you shamelessly and relentlessly.

But I would stop at the first lie. I wouldn't allow any lies on my program. Joe [Scarborough] certainly hung up on the President when he was running for office and started lying, just hung up on him because you can't have lies.
And then this is, some would argue, a strategy, you know, beat up the media and so the base can get all excited to see him calling Kristen Welker stupid.
You don't allow it. We can't have a complicit media. We can't be involved at all with spreading lies. We can't watch him tell lies and not call them out right away and stay with that first one, because they're all lies.
