The time has come once again for the elite legacy media to weaponize the faith of a prominent liberal politician in order to manufacture mainstreamability of some far-left policy item. This time, ABC News has found use for the Catholic faith of Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY)
World News Tonight closed out its A-block by centering its coverage of the imminent signing of New York’s euthanasia bill on Hochul’s Catholicism. Here is that report in its entirety, as aired on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025:

DAVID MUIR: To more news tonight. New York Governor Kathy Hochul says she will sign a right-to-die bill passed over the summer in New York. Gov. Hochul, who is Catholic, says supporting the bill is a difficult decision because of her faith. But she describes her mother's battle with ALS saying, quote: “I am all too familiar with the pain of seeing someone you love suffer and feeling powerless to stop it.” She plans to sign the bill next month.
Watching this recalls to memory the “devout Catholic” frame of Joe Biden any time he came out in support of some policy item on the left-wing pupu platter, whether it be abortion, same-sex marriage, or some other policy issue. In this case, discussion of Hochul’s faith was a larger part of the brief report than the issue at play- her signing of the bill.
Why is that? Because ABC, like the rest of the elitist media, has no use for religion unless it can be leveraged to advance the policy items of the day. Euthanasia is a pretty big-ticket item for the left, and the invocation of Hochul’s faith is designed to create a permission structure for supporting a very controversial policy that is directly at odds with Church teachings.
In broad terms, euthanasia policy is not just limited to the terminally ill. We’ve all heard about cases of individuals securing the right to commit suicide for such symptoms as depression. Reasonable individuals might ask themselves what horrors will come of this bill signing. Canada is struggling with this very issue. What was once limited to the terminally ill has crept over to the physically and/or mentally disabled, Now, there’s even talk about euthanizing babies.
This is what the left and their media would like to see operational in all 50 states. And if The People have to be routinely lied to in order to make it happen, so be it.
