“Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.” -- Matthew 7:5
Just a beam? This MSNBC analyst needs to cast out the whole darn forest!
On Saturday's edition of MSNBC's The Weekend, MSNBC legal analyst Kristy Greenberg accused Ed Martin of "blatant bias." AG Pam Bondi recently appointed Martin as special attorney to investigate Letitia James for having falsely claimed a Virginia home as her primary residence for the purpose of getting better mortgage terms. Martin will also be investigating Adam Schiff on similar grounds.
Schiff was clearly biased against Trump. He was the lead House prosecutor in the first impeachment of Trump. He used it as a stepping stone to a Senate seat, winning a crowded Democrat primary filled with people vying to demonstrate who was the biggest Trump antagonist.
So, yes, Schiff was surely biased.
And Letitia James? Her vendetta against Trump absolutely pegged the Bias-o-Meter! James literally ran for Attorney General on a platform of going after Trump. Examples [per Grok]:
- "Illegitimate president … I look forward to going into the office of attorney general every day, suing him and then going home." (From a July 2018 speech to the Bronx Democratic Party.)
- "We need to focus on Donald Trump. We need to follow his money." (Said during a September 2018 debate with other Democratic candidates, emphasizing the need to investigate potential money laundering and foreign collusion.)
- "As the next attorney general of his home state, I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn." (From her 2018 victory speech.)
- "We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions." Said in a post-election interview with NBC News)
- "What is fueling my soul right now is Trump ... and his abuses, abuses against immigrants, against women, against our environment. We need an attorney general who will stand up to Donald Trump." (From an August 2018 debate.)
- "He should know that we here in New York - and I, in particular - we are not scared of you." (Said on election night in 2018, addressing Trump directly.)
Greenberg also displayed stunning obliviousness in complaining that, even if Martin's investigations don't result in indictments:
"You can really harass somebody with an investigation, right? You're causing them to spend money on lawyers, right? Like, they have their time, it's time-consuming, it's financial resources, it's harassment, it's all of it."
Ya mean, like the estimated $100 million spent in defending Trump against the various charges brought against him? And the hours and days spent in and out of court, preparing for his defense, taking him off the campaign trail? That kind of harassment?
Greenberg said she was "skeptical" that Martin could secure indictments. Greenberg called Martin and his colleagues: "a bunch of clowns . . . without any real case to back it up."
Really? The cases against Schiff and James look substantial. To acquire more favorable loan terms, Schiff has claimed homes in California and the DC area to both be his primary residence. You only get one primary residence, Adam!
James pulled a similar shady stunt. While in office as NY AG, James, in a notarized document, attested, “I hereby declare I intend to occupy this property as my principal residence.” The property was a home in Norfolk, Virginia, about 500 miles from her Albany, New York office, and neighbors say they've never seen her there.
So who's the "clown" now, Kristy? Who's blatantly biased?
Here's the transcript.
MSNBC
The Weekend
8/9/25
7:01 am EDTEUGENE DANIELS: We begin with the Department of Justice continuing to do President Trump's bidding, by targeting his perceived enemies. Attorney General Pam Bondi has tapped Ed Martin, a conservative activist and ex-interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., as special attorney to investigate New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In 2022, James filed a sweeping civil fraud lawsuit against Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization. As you will remember, a judge found Trump liable for fraud in 2024 and ordered him to pay more than $450 million.
This new investigation, allegedly, focuses on whether James' office used its authority to violate Trump's legal rights through its civil lawsuits against the president and his businesses. On top of that, Martin is targeting Democratic Senator Adam Schiff for alleged mortgage fraud.
Remember, Schiff, who was a congressman at the time, was the lead prosecutor in Trump's first impeachment trial. Both Schiff and James have denied any wrongdoing.
Joining us now to get into it, former New York's Congressman Mondaire Jones, who is also a former staffer at the Department of Justice, former Republican Florida Congressman Carlos Corbeil, and Kristy Greenberg, former deputy chief for the Southern District of New York Criminal Division. She's the host of Courtside with Kristy Greenberg on YouTube.
And Kristy, I'm going to start with you, because Ed Martin is kind of the singular figure. We've talked about him a lot on this show because a lot of people have lots of concerns. So I want to go to some background for folks who haven't been paying as much attention as we all have.
He chaired the Missouri Republican Party. He co-authored the 2016 book, The Conservative Case for Trump. Helped to fundraise for and organize the rally that preceded the January 6th riot. One of the leaders of the Stop the Steal movement. Raised money for January 6th defendants and defended
at least three of them in court. Helped craft the RNC 2024 platform. Former interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C.Why is it concerning that someone like this is investigating Letitia James and Adam Schiff? I don't know. We have three hours, so you got some time.
KRISTY GREENBERG: Right. [Sarcastically] This guy's got no bias. No bias whatsoever! I mean, you know, it's bad when he couldn't get confirmed to be the U.S. attorney in D.C. because Republican Senator Tillis said, no, no, no, this guy is too far. Yeah, I mean, look, he's also never been a prosecutor. So putting somebody in who has no qualifications to be there, who just has blatant bias, clearly is not a good choice.
But the question is what comes of it, right? Is this guy going to be able to make any charges actually stick? We're all talking a good game, and he can have his investigations and there's a lot that goes into that.
You can really harass somebody with an investigation, right?
DANIELS: Very expensive.
GREENBERG: You're causing them to spend money on lawyers, right? Like, they have their time, it's time consuming, it's financial resources, it's harassment, it's all of it.
But whether this translates into them actually being able to get an indictment, convince a grand jury they have probable cause that a crime occurre?. I'm skeptical. As of now, I view these guys as a bunch of clowns who don't have any idea what they're doing, have no idea what the Department of Justice is supposed to look like, and are just there doing Donald Trump's bidding, and kind of leaking things to the press without any real case to back it up.
