Samantha Bee: 'Greta Thunberg Terrifies Me and I Love Her For It!'

September 26th, 2019 4:39 PM

Full Frontal host Samantha Bee joined a long list of media figures Wednesday as she heaped praise on teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. Bee noted that “there’s nothing more terrifying than a teenage girl” before introducing Thunberg as “one teenage girl in particular” who “is scaring the crap out of all of us.” In addition to gushing over Thunberg, Bee also labeled those not sharing her enthusiasm for Thunberg or her alarmist rhetoric as “misogynists.”

Bee appeared to buy into Thunberg’s climate alarmism, praising Thunberg for asking the leaders at the UN “to do something before the whole planet melts and we all die.” After playing a clip of Thunberg’s speech at the United Nations Climate Summit, a starstruck Bee declared that “the only thing scarier than a 16-year-old girl is a 16-year-old girl with an agenda who knows how to hold a grudge. Greta Thunberg terrifies me and I love her for it.”

The left-wing comedian commended Thunberg for “bringing something very important to the discourse about climate change: shame” and “ripping into our craven leaders like a miniature Don Rickles in braids.” Highlighting recent actions taken by European countries and the European Union to combat climate change, Bee concluded that Thunberg’s “international shaming tour” is working.

As a headline from an article for The New Republic titled “The Misogyny of Climate Deniers” appeared in the background, Bee went on to slam those who disagree with Thunberg as “misogynists” who believe that “preserving a livable planet has somehow become a threat to the entitlements of masculine primacy.” It looks like Bee agrees with Twitter that the newest commandment in the religion of environmentalism is “Thou Shalt Not Criticize Greta Thunberg.” Bee complained that “the ludicrous resistance to climate change has become so deeply entrenched, especially among America’s right-wing man children, that an actual woman child is now our best hope for survival.”

Towards the end of the monologue, Bee tried to convince the audience that Thunberg’s activism has inspired her to change her personal habits and indicated a desire to paint Thunberg’s face on her bedroom wall. According to Bee, “the next time I’m considering turning up the A.C. because my heater’s too hot, I’ll see your face because I painted it on my wall.”

Reacting to Thunberg’s promise to “never forgive” world leaders if they “fail” to enact radical proposals designed to combat climate change, Bee told Thunberg: “if you ever forgive us for failing you, I’ll never forgive you.” Bee’s support for Thunberg and the left-wing climate change agenda should not have come as that much of a surprise. Just last week, she praised Thunberg as her “favorite child sea captain since Charlotte Doyle” while trashing the Koch Brothers for undermining the “consensus” on climate change.

It seems as if Bee has turned the monologues on her comedy show into audition tapes for MSNBC; since she has spent the last several weeks advocating for student loan forgiveness, gun control, and the abolition of the Electoral College. If her career in comedy ever fails, Bee can always fall back on her true calling: left-wing political activism.

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee

10:51 PM

SAMANTHA BEE: Welcome back to the show. To most of America, I’m Samantha Bee the comedian, Samantha Bee the style icon, Samantha Bee the author of the 12th most popular line of self-published dinosaur erotica on Amazon Canada. But at home, I’m just mom. From my own parenting experience, I can tell you there’s nothing more terrifying than a teenage girl, and right now one teenage girl in particular is scaring the crap out of all of us.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JUJU CHANG: What’s your message to world leaders today?

GRETA THUNBERG: My message is that we’ll be watching you.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BEE: And she means it, too. This morning, I woke up and she was standing over my bed.

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: That, of course, is Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist who’s been traveling with world with one simple message. She’s just a girl standing in front of a group of world leaders asking them to do something before the whole planet melts and we all die.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

THUNBERG: You all come to us young people for hope. How dare you. For more than 30 years, the science have been crystal clear. How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BEE: The only thing scarier than a 16-year-old girl is a 16-year-old girl with an agenda who knows how to hold a grudge. Greta Thunberg terrifies me and I love her for it. She doesn’t want to inspire us or give us hope. She wants to give us nightmares because we deserve them. Greta is bringing something very important to the discourse about climate change: shame. She’s traveled all over the world ripping into our craven leaders like a miniature Don Rickles in braids. And you know what? It is working. Her international shaming tour has led the E.U. to commit hundreds of billions of Euros to combating climate change, she got the British parliament to declare a climate emergency and pledge to zero out its carbon emissions by 2050 and she got the band Scorpions to finally stop rocking everyone like a hurricane.

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: Hurricanes are dangerous, Scorpions. Also, you can’t rhyme here I am with hurra-cam. Oh, my God, you can.

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: Of course, Greta’s campaign has brought out a fierce backlash from misogynists because preserving a livable planet has somehow become a threat to the entitlements of masculine primacy. According to a recent study, men may even be less likely to recycle just because they’re worried people will think they’re gay. Look, the only way people will think you’re gay for recycling is if you return cans on a date with your partner who is a man and who is also gay.

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: The ludicrous resistance to climate change has become so deeply entrenched, especially among America’s right-wing man children, that an actual woman child is now our best hope for survival.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

THUNBERG: You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say we will never forgive you.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BEE: Do you like the Backstreet Boys?

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: Which one is your favorite?

(LAUGHTER)

BEE: Look, thank you, Greta, you scare me because you tell the truth and the next time I’m considering turning up the A.C. because my heater’s too hot, I’ll see your face because I painted it on my wall, and if you ever forgive us for failing you, I’ll never forgive you.
