Late Night

The 2026 field of Democratic Senate candidates offered up plenty of material for the late night comedy shows to work with, but, according to a new NewsBusters study, the four regular late night shows told only seven jokes about them during the fall campaign, but 45 about the Republicans (or 87 percent of Senate candidate jokes).

On Thursday, NBC’s Late Night host, Seth Meyers, continued late night comedy’s effort to ignore the substance behind GOP attacks on Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s radical past and insist that, instead, they are just “truly vile, gutter racism.”

Every so often, NBC’s Seth Meyers will invite Late Night writer Amber Ruffin on to the show for a segment he calls “Amber Says What” where Ruffin proceeds to recap the news by saying “what” in various ways. On Tuesday’s show, Ruffin used the occasion to warn that the upcoming midterms may be the last election ever and pleaded with viewers not to take a Democrat win for granted and urged them…

NBC’s Late Night host, Seth Meyers, and Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, both used their Wednesday shows to promote conspiracy theories that President Trump will try to cancel, nullify, or in some way steal the upcoming midterm elections.

NBC’s Seth Meyers welcomed MS NOW’s Rachel Maddow to Tuesday’s edition of Late Night for the nightly anti-Trump gripe session. Maddow made sure to hit the usual notes, including calling Trump “an authoritarian guy,” but hit some new ones as well as she claimed that Trump is ensuring that the military will be able to kill us all with A.I.

NBC’s Seth Meyers reacted on Wednesday’s edition of Late Night to President Trump’s speech to the U.N. General Assembly with one bizarre claim after another. When Trump threatened consequences for Iran if it does not make a deal, Meyers labeled it “demented” and analogized him to Conan the Barbarian, who is “talking about war crimes” before comparing it to murdering the pizza delivery boy.

Earlier this week, Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed gave a rather bizarre answer to Fox News’s Jesse Watters when asked if “it’s okay for a parent to slash his kid’s ding-a-ling off” by comparing such an operation to circumcision. However, according to NBC’s Late Night host Seth Meyers and writer/producer Sal Gentile’s Thursday A Closer Look Out of Office podcast, El-Sayed…

NBC’s Late Night host Seth Meyers is currently in the middle of a seven-week summer hiatus, but on Wednesday, Meyers and show producer/writer Sal Gentile put out a podcast on the show’s YouTube page where they discussed some of the topics they would have covered if the show was on the air. One of the topics was President Trump’s recent plane switch in Turkey, which led Meyers to wonder if the…

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show host-of-the-week Jordan Klepper and NBC’s Late Night host Seth Meyers finally acknowledged the existence of the Fauci Hearings on their Thursday shows and eagerly stepped up to defend him. According to Klepper, the hearings featured Republicans trying to reduce a complicated topic to “a performative partisan filter," while Meyers blamed President Trump for any…

Rosie O’Donnell may be a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, a Trump assassination attempt conspiracy theorist, and a 2024 election conspiracy theorist, but she was right at home in her old studio on Thursday as he visited NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. During her discussion with Meyers, O’Donnell would claim she fled to Ireland after President Trump’s 2024 win because “we are all screwed” and…

As the war with Iran picks back up in its intensity, NBC’s Seth Meyers falsely declared on Wednesday’s episode of Late Night that President Trump is bragging about his war crimes in public like a game show host. At the same time, Meyers refused to call Iran’s actual war crimes what they are.

For the late night comedy shows, the first half of 2026 was defined by the final airing in May of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. But the political agenda of Colbert and his late night colleagues remained unchanged in January through June this year: No one expressing conservative views was ever granted a guest slot on a late night comedy show while 112 liberals were awarded guest…
