Minutes after the news broke that conservative influencer and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University, ABC News broke in and seemingly suggested he had it coming for his “controversial” views and for going to a campus that didn’t want him there.

MRC analysts looked at ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS evening, morning and Sunday roundtable news shows from June 18 to the morning of September 10 and found a grand total of 4 minutes, 2 seconds spent on the Biden mental decline hearings. 

The horrendous murder of Ukrainian refugee Irina Zarutska aboard a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail has taken a significant turn for the worse, with the release of video showing Zarutzka’s heartbreaking final moments. But the legacy media appear to be already running away from an inconvenient story.

In what has become a predictable and boring exercise, the legacy news media freak out over a Supreme Court action that puts a stop to activist obstruction of President Trump’s agenda. This time, on immigration, with the added bonus of a freakout over the president’s "Chipocalypse Now” meme.

Horror bubbled up on social media over the brutal murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was randomly stabbed to death while riding the light rail in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a homeless man with an extensive criminal and mental health record. A young woman fled war in Ukraine only to find death in an American city. The liberal networks struggled to locate it.

And on the 17th day, the legacy media finally got around to reporting the brutal murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on board a Charlotte light rail. Rather than simply reporting the inconvenient story straight up, though, NBC saw fit to engage in a little Trumpwashing.

Monday marked the beginning of season 29 for ABC’s The View. Back from their summer hiatus, the liberal ladies were just as unhinged as ever as they decried President Trump’s crackdown on crime in the nation’s capital. On the Sunday editions of ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News, the liberal networks were grossly giddy in touting partisan protests against President Trump and joining them in opposing Trump’s desire to crackdown on crime in Chicago, hoping the city remains quiet.

A common feature of legacy media coverage leading up to the 2024 presidential campaign was their collective reluctance and/or outright refusal to cover heinous crimes that reflected poorly on key Democrat policies. With the 2026 midterms over a year out, it appears that the media are reverting to form. 

As is often the case with legacy newscasts, an item reported with great fanfare becomes discarded once it is no longer useful to a narrative. Such is the case with details of what was seized during last week’s raid of John Bolton’s home.

Anyone depending on legacy network news for coverage of China’s military parade, honoring the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, might have thought they were watching Chinese state media. Among these, CBS was the most effusive in their ChiCom suck-uppery.
