Press Ignores Democrats' 'Revealed' Support For Slavery Reparations

April 27th, 2018 10:29 PM

Perhaps understandably, the establishment press ignored a Saturday Washington rally advocating slavery reparations.

But as Brent Scher and Joe Schoffstall at the Washington Free Beacon reported last week, reparations is a key agenda item of a "wealthy Democratic donor club plotting the future of the liberal movement," meaning that Democrats appear to be largely in sync with the mindset of those who attended Saturday's rally. Scher's and Schoffstall's work has also been ignored.

Here is the core of what the two Free Beacon reporters revealed on April 19:

Revealed: Dream Democrat Agenda Includes Reparations Behind closed doors, wealthy liberal donors plot universal healthcare, free college, and reparations

A wealthy Democratic donor club plotting the future of the liberal movement hopes to be fighting for reparations by 2022, according to a document obtained by the Washington Free Beacon from the Democracy Alliance's spring conference this week in Atlanta.

The desire was stated in the invitation for a Monday reception during the annual spring gathering, which was attended by top Democratic Party officials such as DNC chairman Tom Perez, former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe, and Reps. Raul Grijalva (Ariz.) and Mark Pocan (Wis.).

The reception, "Way to Win: 2022 Victory Party," was presented as a look forward at what's possible if Democrats can be effective in coming elections.

"It's 2022 and we are celebrating policy victories across the nation: Medicare for All and Free College, and next on the agenda is Reparations," the group projected, according to an invitation to the event.

Here is the relevant portion of the event invitation (a full invitations photo is at the Free Beacon link):

This event was not idle college faculty lounge chatter. It was a gathering of Democrat elites, sponsored by "the left's biggest donor club" which "has been embraced in recent years by party leadership," as seen in the attendees disclosed above.

On Friday, Scher and Schoffstall further described the Democracy Alliance as "the left's biggest dark money donor club," and identified other lefty luminaries who attended, including but not limited to the Trump impeachment-obsessed Tom Steyer; four current state attorneys general; and former Hillary Clinton national press secretary Brian Fallon.

DNC chairman Perez "headlined two events at the conference."

Though one can't directly compare how the Democracy Alliance would implement reparations to what former New Black Panther Malik Shabazz and his comrades wanted on Saturday, Matt Vespa noted at Townhall on Wednesday that Shabazz's group isn't only after money:

The press hasn't hidden Democratic Party ideas it thinks might have traction with low-information voters like free college and universal healthcare. But a search on "reparations" during the past week at Google News showed only Fox News among national media outlets recognizing the story. Additionally, nothing relevant was found at the Associated Press, The New York Times, or The Washington Post.

The press's failure to note that influential Democrats intend to pursue reparations can only be due to its knowledge that the idea is extremely unpopular, and would hurt its candidates at the polls.
