When the networks try to drive President Trump's approval rating as low as possible, they avoid presenting any positive news. In the first term, they routinely skipped good news. Now we've compiled “Five Economic Facts the Media Don’t Want You to Know” as we head into midterm elections. The good news is Not News.
In my 1996 book Pattern of Deception, I recounted how the networks aerobically denied that economic growth under George HW Bush was real, that the GDP was some kind of illusion. In our 2019 book Unmasked, we listed all the good economic news that the networks avoided. This is still happening. NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck and CNS News Managing Editor Craig Bannister analyze the good economic news.
Let's start with this one: Trump’s 2025 tax cut bill lowered the average household’s taxes by nearly three thousand dollars. Or at least kept Trump tax cuts from expiring. The networks hate tax cuts, and routinely pretend they're just for the wealthy, when they're much broader than that.
Also: Inflation is lower during President Donald Trump’s second term in office than it was during the Biden Administration. But since it accumulates, the prices are still high.
Despite the war with Iran, the price of gas during Trump’s second term has never come close to its spike during Biden’s time in the White House. The average gas price in 2022 is close to the current average, and it went over $5 a gallon that year. Reporters routinely refer to "soaring" gas prices.
Mortgage rates more than doubled under Biden, but fell in Trump’s first term and has held steady during his second. This is still a big problem on the "affordability" agenda.
Then there's good news: real GDP growth for the second quarter accelerated at 2.2 percent, which is much higher than the initially reported 1.5 percent. The first quarter GDP was also revised up to 2.5 percent from 2.2 percent. Networks skipped the revisions.
In non-economic news: There's truly nothing sillier for Jake Tapper to lecture about than "the cocoon of tribalism." Anti-Trump tribalism is the hourly formula on the Cable "News" Network. “THE LURE OF TRIBALISM IS PULLING AMERICANS APART.” Tapper thinks he can denounce "certain folks in ideological media" for spewing hate as if CNN isn't "ideological" or spewing hate.
President Trump is taking after Fox News on Truth Social for not promoting his rallies enough, as he did with the Midterm Convention. But Fox is bringing on Karoline Leavitt as a contributor. Why hasn’t Trump named a new Press Secretary yet?
Jack Smith told the Senate last week he was not political, and then this weekend, he showed up at leftist concert in a No Kings T-shirt. Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine fame organized this "Power to the People" concert and said on stage: “This land does not belong to the billionaires and the oligarchs. It does not belong to the racists and the warmongers. It does not belong to the fascists and the would-be dictators. Brothers and sisters, this land belongs to you and me. Power to the people!” Morello has serious affection for the Chinese Communist Party, but his net worth puts him in the One Percent.
