Current TV's Fugelsang: NewsBusters Is 'Crack and Porn For the Human Id'

November 24th, 2012 7:54 PM

On Tuesday’s edition of the Bill Press radio show, fill-in host John Fugelsang (another “star” of Current TV) celebrated being attacked on NewsBusters for five minutes. “It’s like crack and porn for the human id...It’s like your id gets crack and porn at the same time, and the darkest part of your nature can run free, thanks to NewsBusters.”

On Monday, NB’s Ken Shepherd reported that Fugelsang wanted some respect for democratically-elected terrorist groups who like to drop missiles on Israeli civilians: “Hamas for all of their flaws are the only organization they've got there in Palestine right now, until the next Gandhi comes from there.” Merely quoting Fugelsang accurately is apparently pornography on drugs, and Fugelsang inaccurately claimed Ken called him a terrorist: [ video below the page break ]

"I did say they [Hamas] were democratically elected, and that’s all it takes. That’s all it takes for the right-wing fringe to call you a terrorist," he complained.

In fact, Ken merely summarized with a bit of spin: "Yes, Hamas is a terrorist organization that indiscriminately fires rockets into civilian population centers in Israel. But hey, they ARE the people's choice. That essentially is what comedian John Fugelsang offered listeners" on the Press show.

Fugelsang began by suggesting Ken and NewsBusters bloggers use Jesus as a weapon against activists for the poor.

Because of Israel, we were little superstars of the right-wing hate machine yesterday...I talk about the Bible a lot. I talk about Jesus a lot, and that really upsets NewsBusters, because they like to use Jesus as a club to hurt anyone trying to help the less fortunate...

I think that the overwhelming majority of Christians and Muslims and Jews in the world are getting along just fine right now. It is a small but powerful right-wing fringe of all the world’s great  religions that thinks it’s just dandy to use violence to resolve your problems.

As he and his producer claimed they don't lower themselves to reading NewsBusters -- but they're nevertheless thrilled to be mentioned -- Fugelsang also slammed the Daily Caller: "I look at [The] Daily Caller just so I can remember what sulfur smells like." But he was still angry that he was quoted and mocked with three paragraphs and a video:

NewsBusters went crazy and ran a whole article about how pro-terrorist I was, and pro-Hamas I was. And it was really fun, and it was great as a result of being on The Bill Press Show, which does have one of the smartest, sexiest, and most aware audiences in all of radio, to have the exact opposite come at me all night. So I’m really proud to have dragged this fine show’s name into the NewsBusters gutter. Because calling NewsBusters bottom feeders is really insulting to carp....

Any time you say something that’s moral or intellectually decent, I guess they get upset?...You know you’re doing something right morally or intellectually when NewsBusters gets on your case, and the greatest testament to what a bunch of teabags they are would be the fact that if you want to comment on a NewsBusters article, you’ve got to actually join the site.

Fugelsang claimed the commenters on NewsBusters are nearly unanimous because you have to sign up to comment.  (Is he aware that left-wing media monitor websites use a similar commenting system?)
