Bill Maher Proclaims He's a Die-Hard Vote to Reelect Obama

This shocker just in: Bill Maher's one of those left-wing die-hards for Obama's re-election. In an interview with Thomas Rozwadowski of the Green Bay Press-Gazette promoting his forthcoming comedy appearance in nearby Appleton, Maher proclaimed this is the GOP's fault for driving out all the sensible people:

Nothing could sway you from voting for Obama in 2012, correct?

I cannot imagine. Certainly there is no Republican on the horizon who would tempt me away from Obama no matter how unsatisfactory he performed.

The problem is the Republican Party. I know this is going to sound terribly partisan, but as Henry Kissinger would say about something else, it has the added virtue of being true. The Republican Party has simply gone off the rails . The notion that there are Republican moderates, you know, there are no Republican moderates.

He went on to complain about presidential candidates having to apologize for supporting "cap and trade" policies on global warming. This question was another highlight:

You also have fewer big-name celebrities on "Real Time" than your old show "Politically Incorrect." Is it because the bar has been raised in terms of the political debate and they can't keep up?

Audiences always want to see a famous face. But [the "Real Time"] audience will unleash on me if I put on someone who is stupid, who can't hold their own. They will not tolerate it. They tell me, "Stupidity is all over television already. This is the place where we come to hear something smart.'' So if I don't do that for them, then I have not fulfilled job number one.

Earth to Bill: So why are you putting on Janeane Garofalo to argue Anthony Weiner didn't cause Weinergate? He might want to try someone who isn't so self-evidently ridiculous that she declared "George W. Bush is unelectable, in my opinion"...on the night of his second inauguration.

PS: Maher also still loves Arianna Huffington enough to plug her website in Packerland:

In order to do the show, you have to be a news junkie. How do you filter through the flood of information?

I think I have a fairly balanced diet between old media and new media. I like to start my day with my girl, of course, the Huffington Post. (Laughs.)
