Unhinged Stephen Colbert Unravels: Trump Is the ‘Banality of Evil'

October 8th, 2020 10:49 AM

Stephen Colbert is unraveling. The Late Show host long ago appeared to give up comedy and instead turn his program into DNC television. But the fall presidential campaign has truly broken the activist and former comedian. During a live, post-VP debate, Colbert fumed about the first debate and Donald Trump’s “banality of evil.”

Recapping the Mike Pence/Kamala Harris fight, he melted down: “Tonight's debate, above all, proved once and for all, by comparison what a flaming turd pile last week's debate was. Trump's debate performance last week was a hurricane of bad faith. It boarded on a demonstration of the banality of evil.” Colbert cheered Harris for “picking up a broken pool cue and beat[ing] Pence over the head” with it.

I thought violent imagery was bad? Colbert shamefully took part in Christian bashing, describing the debate as “Kamala vs. Psalm-ala.” He insisted that the religious Pence wanted to take women back to the year 1624,” adding, “Women have been showing far too much ankle since then.”

Last week, during the first debate, the former comedian simply railed against the President, calling him a “stain” and an “abomination.” On August 21, the Late Show host endorsed the "decent," "honest" Biden

STEPHEN COLBERT: Tonight's debate, above all, proved once and for all, by comparison, what a flaming turd pile last week's debate was. Trump's debate performance last week was a hurricane of bad faith. It boarded on a demonstration of the banality of evil. Tonight, on the other hand, we were faced with the banality of banality. I spent the whole debate on the middle of my seat. It was everything we expected: Pence talked over all the women in the room, the moderator tried to call for order. The vice president got a couple licks in, then senator Harris picked up a broken pool cue and beat Pence over the head with the Trump administration's failures.

...

MIKE PENCE: Well, Susan, thank you, although I would like to go back.

COLBERT: To the year 1624. Women have been showing far too much ankle since then.

...

COLBERT: It’s a vice presidential debate. And there's a limit to just how interesting-- oh, my god! Look at his hair! He's so full of crap, he's attracting flies!

....

COLBERT: Now, there are a lot of answers tonight that were sort of disconcerting from Vice President pence, but as disconcerting were some of the things he didn't answer, like, why there was such a massive failure of his coronavirus task force, and the White House in general responding to this crisis. Whether there would be a peaceful transfer of power, should they lose? What's going to happen to preexisting condition coverage. What answers do you think the American people need at this point.
