Remember This? Lauer on Trump's Access Hollywood Tape: New ‘Low,’ ‘Final Straw’

November 29th, 2017 11:53 AM

Apparently, fired NBC host Matt Lauer doesn’t have any concept of self reflection. If he did, the man now accused of gross sexual misconduct and harassment might have pondered his own actions while slamming Donald Trump over the infamous Access Hollywood tape. On the October 13, 2016 Today show, he talked to analyst Nicolle Wallace and demanded, “You said that that Access Hollywood tape might be the low, might be the bottom, might be the final straw.”

Speaking of Trump’s vulgar language in the Access Hollywood tape, the now-fired Today host chided, “Is this the final, final straw in this campaign?” This coming from the man who allegedly sexually assaulted an NBC staffer during the 2014 Olympics. The Daily Beast is reporting this is not an isolated incident.

Yet in 2016, Lauer breezily reported on accusations against others. On October 13 of that year, he opened the show by trumpeting, “Let’s get right to the state of the race. Just 26 days until the election. At least four women have come forward accusing Donald Trump of improper behavior, including kissing and groping.”

On October 26, the then-co-host said of Trump:

The people support him—  supporting him have already accepted the fact there are going to be things to do with his temperament and maybe the way he treats women that they don’t like.

Perhaps Lauer was hoping people were as accepting of his own actions?

For more, see this flashback on hypocrite Lauer grilling Bill O’Reilly about sexual harassment. In 2014, he appeared in boxer shorts on the Today show and told his female co-hosts, “Drink it in, ladies.”

MATT LAUER: Let’s get right to the state of the race. Just 26 days until the election. At least four women have come forward accusing Donald Trump of improper behavior, including kissing and groping.

7:07am

LAUER: But right now let’s bring in Nicolle Wallace and Steve Kornacki. Good morning to both of you. The last week or so we sat here on a number of occasions. I think Nicolle you said that that Access Hollywood tape might be the low, might be the bottom, might be the final straw. Is this the final, final straw in this campaign?

NICOLLE WALLACE (NBC News Political Analyst): I think I should stop saying final. But I think that what I`ve never seen before, not just in politics but, you know, as a participant in any of these conversations, is that a man comes out and confesses to sexual aggression. And then women come out in detail said sexual aggression. And then the man threatens to sue the women and the people who report on that.

MATT LAUER: And—  and let`s not forget, it`s the exactly same thing on the Trump side, the people support him—  supporting him have already accepted the fact there are going to be things to do with his temperament and maybe the way he treats women that they don’t like.
