Excited Networks Hype Trump’s ‘Harsh Greeting’ From Leftist Protesters

June 29th, 2017 12:11 PM

All three networks on Thursday excitedly hyped the “harsh greeting” Donald Trump received as the President attended a fund-raiser in Washington. ABC, CBS and NBC promoted video of protesters chanting, “Shame! Shame! Shame!” and holding up a gigantic puppet of the Republican.

As video played, Good Morning America’s Mary Bruce touted, “Overnight, the President got a harsh greeting as he arrived at his D.C. hotel... where he dropped by a fund-raiser for his re-election campaign.”

In two separate segments, CBS This Morning ran footage of the crowd and the Trump puppet. Gayle King enthused, “President Trump ran into protesters outside a $10 million  fund-raiser at the Trump international hotel in Washington last night.”

Later, Margaret Brennan managed to work in some journalistic complaining about press treatment:

Traveling just a few blocks from the White House for a fund-raiser at the Trump-branded hotel, the President couldn't elude protesters unhappy with the Senate health care plan. But he did elude reporters who were not allowed to cover Mr. Trump's remarks.

On NBC’s Today, Peter Alexander focused, “President Trump driving past protesters outside his Washington hotel where he rallied supporters at a closed door event, no cameras allowed. Nearly $10 million raised.”

The biased segments on ABC, CBS and NBC were brought to you by sponsors Walmart, Macy’s and Honda.

CROWD: What do we want? Health care! When do we want it? Now!

KING: President Trump ran into protesters outside a $10 million  fund-raiser outside the Trump international hotel in Washington last night. Sources tell CBS News Senate leaders —  that they're adding $45 million to bill to address the opioid crisis. Two GOP holdouts says that is one of the issues that's kept them from supporting the bill. Sources say the measure would be changed to let people use health savings accounts to pay insurance premiums. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants the Congressional Budget Office to study the revised bill next week, setting up a vote after the recess. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says it's time to bring Democrats into this process.

SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: President Trump, I challenge you to invite us, all 100 of us, to discuss a new bipartisan way forward on health care in front of all the American people.

KING: The President said Schumer, quote, “doesn't seem like a serious person.”

MARGARET BRENNAN: Those tweets are meant to sway reluctant Senate Republicans to overhaul the health care law that President Trump vowed to fix, but it isn't clear if they can get there, and the president said he's going to give them a little bit more time to make it perfect. Traveling just a few blocks from the White House for a fund-raiser at the Trump-branded hotel, the President couldn't elude protesters unhappy with the Senate health care plan but he did elude reporters who were not allowed to cover Mr. Trump's remarks.
