Ellen’s Liberal Logic: We Must Be Tolerant... But I’d Never Talk to Trump

May 8th, 2017 12:23 PM

Ellen DeGeneres on Friday proved yet again that tolerance is a one way street for liberals. Appearing on the Today show, she told Matt Lauer that Donald Trump would not be invited on her show. Within seconds, the talk show host urged tolerance of ideas that may disagree with our own. Lauer failed to point out the galling hypocrisy in these two statements.

The Today co-host hailed DeGeneres as “socially conscious” and wondered of Trump: “Would you like him to come on the show?” The entertainer quickly said no and explained, “Because I'm not going to change his mind. He's against everything that I stand for.”

With no sense of self awareness, she added, “We need to look at someone else who looks different than us and believes in something that we don't believe in, and still accept them, and still let them have their rights.”

Open-mindedness in action?

DeGeneres in 2016 was an open cheerleader for Hillary Clinton. On May 3, 2016, she gushed over the “super smart” and “amazing” Democrat. On May 25,2016, the host lobbied to be Clinton’s vice presidential nominee.

A partial transcript of Friday’s segment is below:

MATT LAUER: At the time, were you angry or were you proud?

ELLEN DEGENERES: I was angry at first. And then I just thought I got to do something about this. And so I started writing standup again and came back. So it taught me compassion. It taught me, too, that I was strong enough to start all over again. And it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me.

MATT LAUER: You’re socially aware, very socially conscious. You are at times outspoken. What’s your relationship with Donald Trump? Do you know him at all? Have you had a chance to interview him and talk to him?

ELLEN DEGENERES: I don’t know him. I mean, I know him from Celebrity Apprentice, because when we first started the show, I think, season one or two, we went out there and we filmed something with him. And so I flew in his helicopter and did a bit with him. So I knew him then. I have not spoken to him since he’s run for president or become president.

MATT LAUER: Would you like him to come on the show?

ELLEN DEGENERES: No.

MATT LAUER: Why not? Why not? Why wouldn’t someone like you like to sit down opposite the president of the United States?

ELLEN DEGENERES: Because I’m not going to change his mind. He’s against everything that I stand for. We need to look at someone else who looks different than us and believes in something that we don’t believe in, and still accept them, and still let them have their rights.
