Larry King Slams Gun Ownership: 'Beyond Comprehension' to Civil Brits

April 16th, 2015 4:05 PM

Some may be surprised at this revelation, but Larry King still has a television show. The former CNN host is now on the propaganda outfit Russia Today, as well as Ora TV. On Wednesday, the reliably liberal host pushed gun control in a segment on the Second Amendment. Talking to Chuck Michel of the NRA, the anchor sneered, "So, when Sandy Hook happens, does the NRA feel bad?"

Referencing the British, King mused, "I interviewed the head of Scotland Yard once and he could not believe that Americans own guns. It was beyond his comprehension that you could have a gun." He added, "How do you explain that? We developed from the British society."

After Michel explained that "we learned from their mistakes," he added:

MICHEL: But consider that. Our gun deaths really are gang and drug related. If you took the inner city gang violence out of the equation, our gun death rate on a pro-rated basis is the same about the same as most European countries.

One might point out that King's successor at CNN, Piers Morgan, aggressively promoted gun control while on the network. His extremely low ratings eventually prompted cancellation.

King offered his typical, generalized queries, wondering, "Do you suspect that the government is out to take all the guns away? Is that the NRA's [position]?... What's the fear?"

A partial transcript of Larry King's April 15 questions can be found below:

LARRY KING: Is there any law defining a protection of people against guns that the NRA favors? Like, for example, universal checking? Is there any law you favor?

...

KING: So, when Sandy Hook happens, does the NRA feel bad? You know, I mean –

C.D. "CHUCK" MICHEL (West Coast counsel to the NRA): The NRA every –

KING: That wasn't a criminal at Sandy Hook, that was a kid.

MICHEL: No, that was a crazy kid.

...

KING: Chuck, when I've interviewed police chiefs, they all favor gun control.

...

KING: Why does it bother you to have a background check?

...

KING: Do you suspect that the government is out to take all the guns away? Is that the NRA's – Why do you fear of these kind of – What's the fear?

...

KING: Funny when you look at a society. I interviewed the head of Scotland Yard once and he could not believe that Americans own guns. It was beyond his comprehension that you could have a gun. How do you explain that? We developed from the British society.

MICHEL: Yeah, but we learned from their mistakes. The Founding Fathers realized –

KING: Yeah, but they don't have gun deaths like we do.

MICHEL: But consider that. Our gun deaths really are gang and drug related. If you took the inner city gang violence out of the equation, our gun death rate on a pro-rated basis is the same about the same as most European countries.
