Eliot Spitzer Scandal Inspires Plethora of Jokes and Parody Songs

Perhaps New York Governor Eliot Spitzer believes he can weather the firestorm over his scandal about his patronizing of a high-class prostitution ring. However, he is battling an element that will keep his scandal alive in the public more than the usual political scandal---humor. Spitzer's breaking scandal is less than a day old and already the media and the blogosphere is filled with many jokes and parody songs about his situation. Even many liberals are laughing at Spitzer since the humor generated by a self-righteous politician involved in a sleazy scandal involving a prostitution ring is just too hard to ignore. David Letterman led off his show with several jokes on this subject:

Do you think it’s too soon to be hitting on Mrs. Eliot Spitzer?

Did you happen to see the press conference? Very dramatic. Eliot Spitzer was there. He had yellow crime scene tape draped around his pants – crazy.

The thinking now is that the governor may step down now to spend less time with his family.

Of course, Letterman later followed up with his Top 10 Eliot Spitzer Excuses. Jay Leno also joined in the joke-cracking fun:

They found the source of all global warming in America: Eliot Spitzer’s pants…

...Hillary Clinton is now only the second angriest woman in the State of New York.”

Stephen Colbert weighed in with this:

Now, the governor was supposed to give a press conference today at 2:15 p.m. but a whole hour passed before he spoke. To be fair, it is daylight savings time and the governor usually has a prostitute change his clocks.

Not to be outdone by the professional comedians, the online song parodists came up with their own material about Eliot Spitzer. One such effort came from conservative song parodist, dougfromupland, who came up with this parody song video about Love Client #9 set to the tune of Love Potion #9.

Finally, song parodist and co-host of the DUmmie FUnnies, Charles Henrickson, who is involved in a bit of friendly competion with Rush Limbaugh's parodist, Paul Shanklin, came up with another Eliot Spitzer song parody titled, Prostitutin' the Spitz set to the tune of Puttin' on the Ritz:

If you're guv
And wish you knew
Where to get love
Why don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz

Girls with names
You find out after
Play their games
And soon you hafta
Call it quits
Prostitutin' Spitz

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered

Call-girl tricks
Of pure excitement
Pay for kicks
With your indictment
Paging Fitz
Prosecutin' Spitz

Have you seen the prostitute
Chargin' high and lookin' cute
You're a famous VIP
Now we write your RIP
Phone calls
And wiretapping
Net falls
It's you they're trapping
Spendin' lots of cash
For a thrill and a rash

If you're guv
And wish you knew
Where to get love
Why don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz

Girls with names
You find out after
Play their games
And soon you hafta
Call it quits
Prostitutin' Spitz

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered

Call-girl tricks
Of pure excitement
Pay for kicks
With your indictment
Paging Fitz
Prosecutin' Spitz

(Wiretapdancing)

Hooked up with a thousand-dollar hooker
Now you're stuck inside the pressure cooker
Lookin' snookered

If you're guv
And wish you knew
Where to get love
Why don't you do
Like hypocrites
Prostitutin' Spitz
Prostitutin' Spitz
Prostitutin' Spitz
Prostitutin' Spitz

Almost as big a mystery of how Eliot Spitzer could be so stupid as to get himself him involved with a prostitution ring is how humble Lutheran pastor Henrickson seems to know so much about the subject of prostitution.
