Saturday Funnies: Canadian Legislator Gives Opposition The Finger

February 13th, 2010 3:41 PM

So you think the political tone in Washington, D.C., is hostile?

We've got nothing on our friends to the north.

Consider if you will what happened in the New Brunswick, Canada, legislature Thursday when one member gave the finger to another.

As CBC news reported Thursday, this resulted in his expulsion (video embedded below the fold):

Liberal MLA Abel LeBlanc was expelled from the New Brunswick legislature Thursday for extending his middle finger at an Opposition MLA.

The member for Saint John Lancaster made the gesture at Rothesay Progressive Conservative MLA Margaret-Ann Blaney after question period. [...]

The incident occurred after Opposition house leader Paul Robichaud accused LeBlanc of repeatedly heckling Blaney.

I particularly liked this comment from a CBC reader:

Trudeau made that gesture famous. I wonder, is that the secret Liberal Salute? I mean, Trudeau was Liberal and that guy was Liberal...just sayin eh!

Now THAT'S entertainment!
