The View HATES Republicans Calling Out Racist Attacks on Justice Thomas

May 5th, 2023 1:49 PM

With left-wing ProPublica launching a coordinated attack on conservative Justice Clarence Thomas via faux ethics scandals, the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View pounced, on Friday. Particularly, staunchly racist co-host Sunny Hostin was irritated that Republicans would dare call out the racist nature of the attacks Thomas had been subjected to since his nomination to the position in 1991.

After a vague declaration that Thomas was “in a lot of trouble” and a soundbite of Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn calling out the racist motivation, moderator Behar scoffed and suggested it was a convenient defense:

It's been interesting. Cornyn, who is a Republican, says basically it's a racist attack, which is what he said when he was appointed to the Supreme Court; back in the day when Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment. And they said it was a high-tech lynching of a black man then. And now they’re also saying it’s racist.

Of course, the ignorant Behar would butcher the quote. Calling what’s been done to Thomas a “high-tech lynching” wasn’t a term invented by Republicans. It was a quote from Thomas’s own testimony after Hill leveled false allegations against him, without evidence and contradictory testimony from her colleagues.

Responding to Behar, Hostin utilized her race-baiting toolbox. “They used the black card more than I do,” she falsely proclaimed. “It's just not true.”

She proceeded to lecture that “the worst part” of Republicans calling out the racist attack was “that it lessens the real degradation when it happens to African Americans in this country. And so, I think that's -- you know, that's just smoke and mirrors.”

Justice Thomas has been the target of racist attacks from the left for decades, including from The View. In January 2022, Behar and Hostin teamed up to suggest Thomas wasn’t a real black man. Behar used air quotes when describing him as “a black guy, a black man.” Hostin tried to discredit his blackness by saying he “doesn't really represent the black community.”

And almost a year ago to the day, Hostin attacked all black and Latino conservatives by calling them an “oxymoron.” “I feel like that's an oxymoron, a black Republican,” she sneered. “I don't understand either of you. I don’t.”

Further in the Friday segment, faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin called Thomas “the most egregious example” of ethical problems with the Supreme Court but did bring up issues with liberal justices:

Justice Sotomayor failed to disclose six trips funded by outside groups. She did later revise it. She and Gorsuch were paid by Penguin Random House when they were considering taking up a case by that publisher. Elena Kagan didn't recuse herself from something involving Harvard Law School even though she was the prior dean.

Hearing these facts triggered Hostin who had an issue with Farah Griffin bringing attention to the liberal justices the rest of them wanted to hide. “It’s nice that you found a lot of Democrats, but how about John [Robert’s wife],” she chided as if she wasn’t allowed to have a successful career.

The other faux conservative on the panel, Ana Navarro dragged the conversation back to the mud pit she wallows in. “It's nice to see Republicans for a change defending a black man,” she ridiculously sniped. “The problem with Clarence Thomas is not that he's a black man. It's that he has a sugar daddy and he's on the Supreme Court.”

Interestingly, it was Sara Haines who pointed out that Congress was the real “problem” when it came to influence peddling because what they do every day is “more consequential.” “They do not have to explain themselves in an opinion piece where they have to show their work, as to how they got there” as the justices have to do, she noted. “The dirty money lives deep and dark in Congress.”

The View’s support for racist attacks on Justice Clarence Thomas was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Sandals and L’Oreal. Their contact information is linked.

JOY BEHAR: It's been interesting. Cornyn, who is a Republican, says basically it's a racist attack, which is what he said when he was appointed to the Supreme Court; back in the day when Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment. And they said it was a high-tech lynching of a black man then. And now they’re also saying it’s racist.

SUNNY HOSTIN: They used the black card more than I do.

BEHAR: Do you agree?

[Laughter]

Touché. Touché.

So, what do you say to that?

SUNNY HOSTIN: It's just not true. And I think the worst part of the fact that they're using the black card in that way is that it lessens the real degradation when it happens to African Americans in this country. And so, I think that's -- you know, that's just smoke and mirrors.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Clarence Thomas is obviously the most egregious example that we've seen. It's the most egregious example we've seen. But there's a lot of problems on the Supreme Court and I would note that trust in the Supreme Court is the lowest it's been. It had a 20 percent drop in the last two years.

[General noises of agreement]

So, at a time when we talk about the importance of democracy, one of our coequal branches of government, the judiciary, where we look at the Supreme Court, and people don't trust it, that's a problem.

But there’s a number of cases. We had Justice Sotomayor failed to disclose six trips funded by outside groups. She did later revise it. She and Gorsuch were paid by Penguin Random House when they were considering taking up a case by that publisher. Elena Kagan didn't recuse herself from something involving Harvard Law School even though she was the prior dean. I only say this –

HOSITN: It’s nice that you found a lot of Democrats, but how about John – John

FARAH GRIFFIN: I mentioned Gorsuch as well.

HOSTIN: And John Roberts' wife.

BEHAR: John Roberts' wife.

FARAH GRIFFIN: I actually have that right here.

BEHAR: $10 million.

HSOTIN: $10 million.

SARA HAINES: Congress is the problem. And this is what I mean by that: It is more consequential what Congress does every day. They make the laws. They do not have to explain themselves in an opinion piece where they have to show their work, as to how they got there. They are involved with lobbying. It's like horse trading. You pay me this and I'll just legislate that. They can bring up anything they want.

Congress is the problem here, which I don't think it's a coincidence that Matt Gaetz and AOC – those names together should make everyone’s ears perk up – are now bringing legislation about barring stock trading among Congress.

The dirty money lives deep and dark in Congress. And that's why they're bringing it up now; cause guess who's next, when these headlines kind of wane out: Congress. So, I think right now it's kind of like guests are coming over, we're cleaning the attic rather than living room. Congress is where we need to be focused right now.

[Crosstalk]

The problem with Clarence Thomas is not that he's a black man. It's that he has a sugar daddy and he's on the Supreme Court.
