‘You’re 51!’ The View Attacks Nikki Haley for Her Age, Term Limits

February 20th, 2023 2:13 PM

CNN’s Don Lemon found himself on an island after he lashed out at former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley (51) and proclaimed she was “past her prime” as a woman. One would think the ladies of ABC’s The View would jump to her defense. But they decided to swim out there and join Lemon on Monday after the cast LIED about her being of the same generation as President Biden, decried her goal to enact term limits on Congress, and even called for her to take a “mental acuity test.”

Racist Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the prerecorded show by baselessly suggesting “progressive circles” were warming up to Biden, but grew prickly when noting that many on both sides of the aisle want younger leadership.

This was followed up with a medley of clips, including Democratic Congressman Maxwell Frost (D-FL), Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR), and Haley, all calling for “a new generation” to step up and lead America.

Of course, Goldberg targeted the presidential candidate. “You're not a new generation! You're 51! What are you talking about?!” Goldberg shouted with a sneer. “[She’s] not a new generation. She may be younger than most of those people, but her rhetoric is the same. She's saying the same BS.”

FACT CHECK: False. Biden was born in 1942, making him part of The Silent Generation. Haley was born in 1972, which makes her part of Generation X. That’s two generations younger than Biden.

Racist Sunny Hostin (54) scoffed at having young people leading America because they “don't have experience” and accused ALL of America of being ageist:

I think what's interesting in this country and we're one of the only countries in the world that don't value age, don't value experience. I mean, I remember when my grandmothers were alive. I would sit at their feet and just take in the lessons and everything they had to say. And now it's like, “oh, you're too old.” Well, really? Because when that person is gone, so is that institutional knowledge, and it just makes me sick.

She then directed attention to a highly-edited series of clips The View cobbled together of Haley denouncing the permanent political class, calling for popular policies such as term limits, and acuity tests for aging politicians who are actually past their prime:

The America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire. [Transition] We'll have term limits for Congress. [Transition] And mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.

“How dare she say that someone over 75 needs some sort of mental acuity test! I think she needs a mental acuity test!” Hostin shrieked.

Hostin had a history of making grossly derogatory remarks about Haley. Last year, she falsely accused the former Ambassador of changing her Indian name to present as white (Sunny was not her real name, it’s Asuncion), calling her a racial “chameleon.” A disgusting term she regurgitated last week. Haley correctly responded by blasting Hostin as a racist.

But the clownishness didn’t stop there. Up next were The View’s faux conservatives.

Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested mental acuity tests weren’t a real thing but demanded one for Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R). Hostin huffed that former President Trump should have taken one, which he did and passed. Farah Griffin vaguely remembered that fact and scoffed at him doing well (Click “expand”):

FARAH GRIFFIN: My issues with Biden and Trump are not about their age. But on that Nikki Haley point, if there's a test that actually does this – and I’m not super familiar with it – why wouldn't all elected officials –I’d like Marjorie Taylor Greene to take a mental acuity test as much as Joe Biden.

[Applause]

HOSTIN: I think Trump should’ve taken a mental acuity test.

FARAH GRIFFIN: I think he did. It was like cat, dog, or something. It was bizarre.

Bloviating Ana Navarro attempted to assert that Haley was a hypocrite to call for a new generation when she worked for an older president. “It's funny to me to hear all these Republicans who worked for Trump like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Nikki Haley talk about a new generation. It's not like Donald Trump is a spring chicken, people,” she complained.

These ageist attacks against Nikki Haley were made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Neutrogena and Macy’s. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: So, it's President's Day and our current president, Biden is starting to get more support from progressive circles to run for a second term. Of course, some Democrats and Republicans have been saying our government needs to evolve along with the people who live here. Now, that's what they're saying suddenly. Everybody’s saying, “Oh, it should reflect all of us.” Okay. Well, here's a clip.

[Cuts to video]

MAXWELL FROST (D-FL, 26) Gen-Z and Millennials make up a third of the country, but we're nowhere near a third of the government. And I think we need a government that needs to look like the country.

SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS (R-AR, 40): It's time for a new generation of Republican leadership.

NIKKI HALEY (R, 51): The Washington establishment has failed us over and over and over again. It's time for a new generation of leadership.

[Cuts back]

GOLDBERG: You're not a new generation! You're 51! What are you talking about?!

[Applause]

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Compared to D.C., though – Compared to D.C., that's a new generation.

GOLDBERG: But it's not a new generation. She may be younger than most of those people, but her rhetoric is the same. She's saying the same BS.

And I love the young kid, but the only way you’re going to get younger people to run, dude, is if you're out there talking to people and saying run! Don't sit here and say we need it to look like us. We know that. We know that. But we're not going to vote for people who don't have our best interests at heart! Okay?

SUNNY HOSTIN: And also, people that don't have experience. I think what's interesting in this country and we're one of the only countries in the world that don't value age, don't value experience.

I mean, I remember when my grandmothers were alive. I would sit at their feet and just take in the lessons and everything they had to say. And now it's like, “oh, you're too old.” Well, really? Because when that person is gone, so is that institutional knowledge and it just makes me sick.

[Applause]

I think we have a clip of Nikki Haley.

[Cuts to highly edited video]

HALEY: The America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire. [Transition] We'll have term limits for Congress. [Transition] And mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.

[Cuts back]

HOSTIN: How dare she say that someone over 75 needs some sort of mental acuity test! I think she needs a mental acuity test!

[Applause]

FARAH GRIFFIN: Listen – Because I agree. With age comes wisdom. To me the – My issues with Biden and Trump are not about their age. But on that Nikki Haley point, if there's a test that actually does this – and I’m not super familiar with it – why wouldn't all elected officials –I’d like Marjorie Taylor Greene to take a mental acuity test as much as Joe Biden.

ANA NAVARRO: It's funny to me to hear all these Republicans who worked for Trump like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Nikki Haley talk about a new generation. It's not like Donald Trump is a spring chicken, people.

You know, they keep making reference to Joe Biden. Well, Joe Biden is a couple years older than Donald Trump. And I don't know about you, but he looks to be in a hell of a lot better physical shape. And mental shape, I would say.
