CBS Boosts AOC Smear the GOP Are 'Abusers,' Omit Fact from Riot Tale

February 2nd, 2021 8:49 PM

You could feel the unity surging on Tuesday's CBS Evening News as the network gave a boost to the vile smears from Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), suggesting the Republican Party was just a bunch of domestic and sexual abusers. On top of that, there was also incredibly lazy reporting from congressional correspondent Kris Van Cleave, who failed to tell viewers that the person banging on Ocasio-Cortez’s door during the Capitol riot was a Capitol Police officer.

Playing clips from an Instagram Live she had aired the night earlier, Van Cleave showcased her unfounded smear of conservatives comparing them to “abusers.” In fact, he seemed to give it credence:

CLEAVE: Speaking to more than 150,000 watching on Instagram Live, AOC also revealed she's a sexual assault survivor and criticizes the push from the right to move on after the violence.

OCASIO-CORTEZ: These folks who tell us to move on, that it's not a big deal, that we should forget what happened, or even telling us to apologize, these are the same tactics of abusers.

The trauma of the Capitol attack is still raw for many on the hill. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez relieved hiding in her office bathroom,” he noted at one point. Van Cleave also played these soundbites from her stream:

OCASIO-CORTEZ: And I closed the door, and I just keep hearing this bang, bang, bang!

(…)

OCASIO-CORTEZ: I mean, I thought I was going to die.

According to his report, a simple bathroom door was all that stood between the mob of insurrectionists and the Congresswoman. But he left out a key detail: the person banging on her door was a Capitol Police officer looking to protect her.

Now, the officer allegedly didn’t announce who he was. So, it would be understandable for Ocasio-Cortez to fear who was outside. But we now know who it was, thus CBS should have included it in the report to give the full context.

It wasn’t an arcane piece of knowledge either.  “[The] person in that office was a Capitol Police officer,” noted Special Report anchor Bret Baier on Fox News Channel. And for those who were unoriginal and would argue ‘of course, a Fox News reporter would know that, they’re obsessed with her,’ NBC Nightly News also reported it.

“When she came out of the bathroom, she found a Capitol Police officer. She and a staffer eventually barricading themselves inside a fellow congresswoman's office as rioters raged,” reported Capitol Hill correspondent Kasie Hunt.

As an additional positive note about Hunt, she didn’t include Ocasio-Cortez’s smears against conservatives as part of her report.

CBS on the other hand, wasn’t about unity.

CBS’s boost of ridiculous anti-conservatives smears was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Liberty Mutual. Their contact information is linked so you can tell them about the biased news they fund. CBS Evening News has also asked people to text anchor Norah O’Donnell at this number: (202) 217-1107.
