Quarantine Dodging, Maskless Cuomo Attacks Sen. Cruz as ‘COVIDiot’

November 17th, 2020 11:36 PM

What makes naked hypocrisy worse than it already was? When the perpetrator was loud, pompous, and self-righteous. That was the nasty mixture brewing on the set of CNN’s PrimeTime Tuesday as roid-raging Chris “Fredo” Cuomo attacked Harvard-educated Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as a “COVIDiot,” because he dared to call out Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for virtue-signaling with his mask.

“COVIDiot” was a word Fredo’s brain cooked up sometime back. It’s a combination of COVID and idiot. The man’s a true genius. The same man who escaped his quarantine last Easter and has been repeatedly caught and scolded for not wearing a mask in crowded places.

So, what had Fredo’s undies in a wad so big that he was lashing out at the Senator? Well, it was a couple of things. First, he was upset over Cruz’s response to an incident on the Senate floor where Senator Brown snapped at Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) for not wearing a mask, even though no one was within six feet of him.

Chiding Cruz for his “jackassery,” Cuomo bristled as he read from the Senator’s tweet calling out Brown:

Little interest is an understatement, with Senator Ted Cruz following that moment up with his own unique brand of jackassery, tweeting the scene was “idiotic.” Sherrod Brown is being a complete ass. He wears a mask to speak when nobody is remotely near him as an ostentatious sign of fake virtue. Dan Sullivan was 50 feet away, presiding.”

You are a COVIDiot, Senator Cruz. I know you went to Harvard, I know you’re really smart. You just try really try not to act that way too often, especially where Trump is involved,” Fredo sneered.

He tried to poke holes in Cruz’s argument by pointing out that Sullivan wasn’t 50 feet away because he had others nearby. But Brown was 50 feet away, which was what Cruz was talking about and the other people were outside of six feet.

You would think Cruz would have a lot more sense about how bad this virus is. You see what's happening in his state of Texas,” Cuomo chided as he suggested Cruz wasn’t doing anything for starving Texans:

[It] just became the first to surpass a million cases. He doesn't say that often. Not to mention the hunger pandemic that is there. Thousands waiting in food lines in north Texas this weekend, cars as far as you can see filled with Americans in need when they shouldn't be.

That brings us to the second reason Fredo was itching to take a swing a Cruz: they had a Twitter spat Tuesday.

Responding to a video tweet of Cruz proposing the “radical proposition” that “elections are decided when the results have been counted and the legal proceedings are over,” Cuomo angrily attacked him and accused him of holding up the deployment of a coronavirus vaccine.

After Cruz told him to “hush child,” Cuomo shot back by accusing him of doing nothing for the people of Texas. The Senator schooled him on that too and brought the facts: “In the past 2 months, we’ve voted TWICE on $500 billion in COVID relief. Both times, Senate Dems filibustered the bill. You should call on your own party to stop blocking relief.  EVERY SINGLE Dem voted to filibuster.”

Adding: “I suspect you never reported on that fact to your viewers.” And up until Tuesday night’s show, Cruz was correct. Fredo only brought it up when he spoke with Brown after his rant.

Before bringing on Brown, Cuomo said they tried to book Cruz “to take it off Twitter, bring it here, talk civilized;” said the man who wants to “choke” and “punch” his critics and just called the Senator a “COVIDiot.” “He said he’s unavailable. We’ll keep trying. Maybe he’s got a new book to sell,” he sniped.

Fredo might have been thankful Cruz wasn’t able to make it, especially after the spanking he gave the bloviating CNN host the last time he was on.

CHRIS CUOMO: He was just on the Senate floor yesterday, had his mask off when he spoke. The same Senate floor where this happened.

[Cuts to video]

SEN. DAN SULLIVAN (R-AK): Senator from Ohio.

SEN. SHERROD BROWN (D-OH): I would start by asking the presiding officer to please wear a mask as he speaks and people below him are, I can't tell you what to do, but I know that the behavior --

SULLIVAN: I don't wear a mask when I'm speaking like most senators. Well, I – most senators –

[Crosstalk]

SULLIVAN: I don't need your instruction from--

BROWN: I know you don't need my instruction, but there clearly isn't much interest in this body in public health.

The presiding officer, a Republican from Alaska wasn't 50 feet away. He was right there with people under his nose. You would think Cruz would have a lot more sense about how bad this virus is. You see what's happening in his state of Texas?

[It] just became the first to surpass a million cases. He doesn't say that often. Not to mention the hunger pandemic that is there. Thousands waiting in food lines in north Texas this weekend, cars as far as you can see filled with Americans in need when they shouldn't be.

We tried to reach out to the Senator, get him to take it off Twitter, bring it here, talk civilized, see if there's a better way forward. He said he’s unavailable. We’ll keep trying. Maybe he’s got a new book to sell.
