On CNN, David Frum Goes BIBLICAL in Urging Everyone to Fight Back Against Trump

November 17th, 2021 5:05 PM

You really have to listen to David Frum to understand just how melodramatic the Never Trumper became on CNN's New Day this morning in appealing to Americans to fight back against the former president.

At the 1:15 point in the clip below, his voice filled with emotion, Frum actually cited the prophet Isaiah from the passage (Chapter 6)  in which the Lord asks whom shall I send? and Isaiah answers, "send me!"

FRUM: Well, I think, I'm going to turn that question back to the people who are watching you right now.

There is a famous passage in the Bible where G-d asked the question, who will go for us? And the prophet Isaiah has to say, send me.

I think a lot of us have had in mind that there's someone out there who will do the job of protecting the American democracy for you. Maybe it's special counsel Mueller. Maybe it's somebody else. And I think through the [inaudible], it's you! It's just you! You, your friends, your neighbors.

Frum's point was that instead of waiting for some savior to come along to rescue American democracy from the evil clutches of Trump and his supporters, each American must take it upon himself to fight back.

David Frum CNN New Day 11-17-21One thing is certain: Frum can count on his friends in the liberal media to do more than their share to defeat the Republicans!

And what is it with Republican-haters and their penchant for depicting Republicans as hurting people in wheelchairs? Many will remember the Democrat ad from some years ago in which Paul Ryan was depicted pushing granny in a wheelchair off a cliff.

Then there was Jon Meacham, who in 2005 won one of MRC's dubious awards. Commenting on George W. Bush’s criticism of Roosevelt’s Yalta deal with Stalin on post-war Europe, Meacham said: “It’s like he [President Bush] stuck a broomstick in his [FDR’s] wheelchair wheels."

And today, Frum analogized Steve Bannon to someone "knocking over the person in the wheelchair."

Such violent fantasies, these liberals!

Never Trumper David Frum quoting the prophet Isaiah in urging people to fight back against Trump was sponsored in part by Intel, Dell, Johnson & Johnson, maker of Listerine, Liberty Mutual, Facebook, and Discover.

BRIANNA KEILAR: Joining us is David Frum, staff writer for The Atlantic, and former speech writer for George W. Bush. He also has a fascinating new op-ed out called "Steve Bannon Knows Exactly What He's Doing."

. . .

As we watched Steve Bannon this week go to the courthouse, he seemed, basically, gleeful about it. And in this new op-ed, you write about how this is exactly what Steve Bannon wants.

. . .

DAVID FRUM: This is, this is, this character who's like in a rock music video, turning over the table, kicking, kicking the piano player, knocking over the person in the wheelchair, and saying: what are you going to do about it? I, not only did I do it all in plain view, I'm going to do it again. And Bannon's made clear his strategy, and this is what the article is about. His strategy is, I don't respect any of this. I don't respect any rules, I don't respect any process. You can accuse me of violating the process. I. Don't. Care.

. . .

JOHN BERMAN: So what's the consequence of that, David? Because I agree with you. I think Steve Bannon doesn't care if he's convicted of contempt of Congress. He'll end up in jail for a month, and that would perhaps politically,or for entertainment value, perhaps be the best thing that ever happened to him, even though it's in violation of U.S. law. So why does that matter, bigger picture, and what could or should be done about it? .

Because these are not -- there are not a few people operating in some clandestine secret. This is a huge group, operating in the open, supported by the former President of the United States, the likely next nominee of the Republican party, backed by perhaps a third or a quarter of the country. It's a giant political challenge, the stability of American democracy. And the legal system can't cope with a threat posed not by a few lawbreakers but a quarter or third of the country.

KEILAR: Yeah, and they seem to have a very clear mission, if you will, as you describe in this. What is the counter-measure to that? You sort of leave that open-ended, so we'll see how people answer that. David Frum: thanks so much.
