Scarborough Whistles Past Biden's Pitiful Poll Numbers: Deserting Dems Will 'Obviously' Come Home

November 15th, 2021 12:07 PM

During Donald Trump's presidency, Joe Scarborough's favorite parlor game was to trumpet every dip in the president's poll numbers. But back in August, when Biden's numbers started to slide, Scarborough went strangely silent, prompting us to ask Scarborough: "Cat got your tongue?"

Now, Biden's poll numbers have gotten so bad that even dead-enders like Scarborough can no longer ignore them. On Monday's Morning Joe, Scarborough was thus forced to acknowledge the latest bad news, and do his best to whistle past them. He tried to spin the terrible Biden poll numbers as "A bit of good news if you're Joe Biden and bad news."

In the most recent poll, Biden's approval plunged to a record low. Scarborough described the number as in the "low 40s." Yeah, 41% is about as low as the 40s can get! And even that is seeing the sunny side. A recent poll by USA Today — an outfit no one would call GOP-friendly — put Biden at a calamitous 38%. Biden could only thank heaven for Kamala Harris, whose minuscule 28% perhaps made Joe believe he looked good by comparison!

So poor Scarborough had to break out his biggest lipstick this morning to slap some on the pig of Biden's numbers. He took a two-fold approach. First, Scarborough claimed that the 16% of Democrats who have deserted Biden would "obviously . . . come home": i.e., vote Democrat when the electoral chips were down.

Scarborough's second move was to pivot as fast as his clodhoppers would carry him away from Biden's bad numbers, and switch to touting poll support for the recently-passed infrastructure bill. After mentioning Biden being in the low 40s just once, Scarborough mentioned the 63% support for the infrastructure bill no fewer than four times!

But, you look at where he’s sitting, and where his legislation is. The bipartisan infrastructure bill overwhelmingly popular, 63% of Americans, 63% of Americans support this bill. I want you to just look at that as we start the show. 63% of Americans support a bill that Republicans are, are getting hate calls from their constituents if they supported a bill that more than six out of ten of Americans support.

And for good measure, Scarborough slurred Republicans as "really stupid" for not supporting the infrastructure spending.

Nice try whistling past the graveyard, Joe!Mika Brzezinski Joe Scarborough MSNBC Morning Joe 11-15-21

Question: we get that Scarborough hates Trump. For Joe, it's Orange Man Bad to the max. But Trump's no longer president. So what explains Scarborough twisting himself into knots to support and defend Biden and his hard-left agenda? Is there any Republican that Scarborough would support in 2024?

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough whistling past the graveyard of Biden's bad poll numbers was sponsored in part by Jeep and E-Trade.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Mika, also, if you look at some of the poll numbers that are out. There's always a question of where Joe Biden's sitting, and what the agenda's looking like.

Joe Biden’s number is low. A poll that we’re going to be showing you this morning shows his numbers are in the low 40s. A bit of good news if you 're Joe Biden and bad news.

The bad news is, he’s not doing well with independents. The good news is, that he’s 7, 17 points off with Democrats. Those are obviously people that come home, or 16% Democrats are not supportive right now. You know those voters usually come home and almost always come home. But it’s independents where he’s sitting at 58% disapproval that he obviously will have to work on.

Other Republicans in Congress are saying that it is a communist bill. An infrastructure bill to make your roads, your bridges, your airports safer, your drinking water safer, your broadband faster: the things that we actually want our government to do. Even if we're small-government conservatives, Republicans can’t even get on board with that, they're calling it some sort of communist conspiracy. Because they're really stupid, and don't actually understand the meaning of that word.
