ABC, CBS, NBC Ignore Politico Poll Showing Trump, GOP Approval Ratings Rising

February 14th, 2018 2:56 PM

All three broadcast networks ignored a new Politico/Morning Consult poll, which showed President Trump’s approval rating is at its highest its been in the past ten months. The poll also showed Republicans ahead of Democrats on the congressional ballot, in anticipation of the 2018 midterm elections.

According to Politico, Trump is now evenly split among voters in his approval ratings: 47 percent approve of his job performance while 47 percent disapprove of his job performance. His approval ratings haven’t been that high since April of 2017.

Republicans are now beating out Democrats as well, according to the poll, which was conducted February 8-12. Morning Consult’s co-founder and chief research officer, Kyle Dropp, assessed that voters trust Republicans to handle the economy much more than they do Democrats, at a rate of 43 percent to 32 percent respectively.

Additionally, the poll found, Congressional Republicans have “a 9-point advantage on handling jobs, a 6-point lead on dealing with immigration and a 19-point lead on handling national security.”

Conversely, key figures from the Democrat party, such as Nancy Pelosi, received low marks. Nearly half of voters polled, 49%, held an unfavorable opinion of the House Minority Leader.

The poll was released early this morning, in plenty of time for the networks to add the story to their coverage lineup. But as is typical for the liberal media, they blatantly ignored the positive news about the president and Republicans, while Trump’s low approval ratings this year have proved to be popular talking points.

The news did get a passing mention on ABC, later in the day, however. View host Meghan McCain touted the positive poll to school her fellow liberal hosts on how out-of-touch they were with what most Americans felt about the president. After the panel had gushed endlessly about the Stormy Daniels payout scandal, McCain noted that this scandal “isn’t resonating” with voters:

MCCAIN: What's interesting about this scandal is I just got an e-mail alert before we came back from commercial break that according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll, Trump's approval ratings have actually broken even for the first time since he’s been elected. So this scandal while we obviously have talked about it at length on this show and a lot of people are upset, I still go back to the old ‘it's the economy stupid,’ there's one person agreeing with me. Clearly this isn't resonating in the same way it does with us quite frankly.

BEHAR: What do you mean it broke even?

MCCAIN: 47-47, February 8th through 12th was when this was polled, these voters, this is after when the scandal broke. This isn't resonating in the same way it would have done say ten years ago….These approval ratings have broken even. If you would have thought a year plus into this administration with the amount of scandal and the amount of turmoil, 34% changeover in the White House that he still would have been breaking even, that’s probably not something you would’ve guessed on election night.
