Susan Sarandon: Bernie ‘Has Balls’ and ‘FDR Plans’ for the Country

Last night Susan Sarandon, one of Hollywood's most outspoken leftist celebrities paid a visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers – whose host almost nightly bashes conservatives – so of course Sarandon’s liberal activism was the main topic of conversation. The actress worked in plugs for Bernie Sanders and the Huffington Post while bashing the “hate rhetoric” coming from some in the GOP, all in one short interview.

The segment opened with Meyers asking Sarandon to explain her trip to Greece to help refugees.

Sarandon noted how “practically everybody” in America is related to an immigrant or refugee, and so she thought the United States should be welcoming to the Syrian refugees:

At some point. And I always thought of the United States as being so welcoming and so many cultures and blah blah blah. And then there was this crescendo of hate fear-based rhetoric that was coming out of our drunk uncle at the wedding, Trump.

The host laughed and agreed while Sarandon went on to explain her work with the refugees in Europe. At that point she asked viewers to go read the far-left Huffington Post, where she blogged her experiences:

The Huffington Post was great. They stepped up, and everyday I would go home and write about what I'd seen and post pictures. And so on the Huffington Post, somehow you can find it on there. I don't know, me, I guess you can find it. And you can see the faces and listen to the stories of these people.

Meyers thanked her for her activism and shifted gears to ask her to share why she was such an outspoken supporter of Bernie Sanders:

MEYERS: You -- you've been a vocal Bernie supporter --

SARANDON: Yeah!

MEYERS: And you've gone on the campaign trail with Bernie.

SARANDON: Yeah, and he has balls! Believe me.

MEYERS: Yeah he does, he has balls.

Sarandon went on to praise Sanders’ FDR-like vision for the country:

I've been, when I went to Iowa, I was so moved by the people in Iowa that want to be -- to reinvest in this country and really want to believe and he has really concrete, very simple, you know, FDR kind of plans that are totally possible and should be done, because, you know, you talk to people who can't get help-- can't go to the doctor because their co-pay is too high. They can't pay off their school debt. They can't, you know, the country needs infrastructure.”
