College Students’ Anti-Cruz Stunt Gets Rewarded with Media Spotlight

Leave it to the left to take a joyful occasion like a marriage proposal and turn it into a political stunt.

Last Sunday at a rally for Ted Cruz in Iowa, two liberal college students from Massachusetts decided to play a prank on the GOP candidate and garner some media attention. Unfortunately they succeeded with a featured article in the Boston Globe and the Associated Press February 1, and the Washington Post  February 2. The AP story was picked up by several news outlets including ABCNews.com

So just what happened?

It all started when Arden Jurskis and Kenzy Peach, sophomores at Emerson College, had an idea to call out Cruz for his “hypocritical” stance on marriage while on a school trip to the Iowa caucuses. While waiting in line, apparently Jurskis whispered to Cruz that he was going to propose to his girlfriend and Cruz put his hand on Jurskis’ shoulder while he got on one knee.

Cruz clapped and embraced the two in a moment captured on camera and spread across social media. But turns out it was all a ruse.

As Peach told the Boston Globe, the engagement was never real, it was to make a statement against Cruz’s belief in marriage as between one man and one woman.

“It’s way more ethical to have two people of the same gender get married than have two college sophomores tie the knot,” she stated.

Let the brilliance of that airtight argument sink in.

While none of the media outlets seemed to take the pair’s stunt very seriously, they still gave the pair credibility by running the silly story without judgement. Can you imagine how different the tone would be if this was a pro-life student pulling an equally ridiculous stunt on a Democrat candidate?

This isn’t Jurskis’ first time pretending to be a fan of the GOP candidates either. He’s posed for pictures with Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and Carly Fiorina, which are featured in the Globe article.

In Fiorina’s picture caption, he wrote, “Look guys! I met Satan!”

How charming.
