Nets Lobby Hard for Dem Gun Grabbing Schemes, Trash 2nd Amendment

May 25th, 2022 9:04 PM

A day after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas in which nineteen children and two teachers were shot and killed, the evening news networks continued their ghoulish coverage of standing on the graves of the children who died to lobby for the Democrat Party’s gun-grabbing agenda.

The most obnoxious coverage as per usual was from leftist hack and pseudo journalist Rachel Scott who screeched and sneered at Republican Senators for blocking the Democrat’s “popular” gun control laws.

During ABC World News Tonight’s coverage, Scott went through a list of polling results that show “56 percent support an assault weapons ban. 86 percent support a red flag law, allowing authorities to temporarily take guns away from people determined to be dangerous. And 89 percent support background checks.” Scott huffed that “for most Republicans on Capitol Hill, those issues are nonstarters.”

Scott then proceeded to run up and down the hallways of Congress and harass Republican Senators, as well as Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ):

RACHEL SCOTT [TO SENATOR RICK SCOTT]: The majority of Americans support expanded background checks. Why not support it?

SEN. RICK SCOTT: Unfortunately, what some people do is immediately want to take people's second amendment rights away and I’m not willing to do that.

SCOTT: Many Republicans didn't want to talk about the issue at all. [TO SENATOR JOSH HAWLEY] Do you support expanded background checks, the majority of Americans support it, do you support it?

SCOTT [TO SENATOR JAMES LANKFORD]: The majority of Americans support background checks. Do you support it?

(...)

SCOTT [TO SENATOR KRYSTEN SINEMA]: Senator Sinema, do you support changing the Senate rules in order —

SINEMA STAFFER: Sorry, guys.

SCOTT [TO SINEMA]: —to pass gun control legislation?

SINEMA STAFFER: She's in and out.

SCOTT [TO SINEMA]: Nineteen children are dead.

SINEMA STAFFER: Thanks so much.

SCOTT [TO SINEMA]: Can you give us a comment about it?

The opportunistic gun control lobbying wasn’t just isolated to ABC. CBS Evening News fill-in anchor Tony Dokoupil (Norah O’Donnell has COVID) dedicated the last segment of the broadcast to sneer at the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

Dokoupil referenced comments Texas Governor Greg Abbott made about children being a blessing. The leftist anchor decried that “children are a blessing, guns are a right in this country because of 27 words the Founding Fathers tucked into the Bill of Rights in 1791,” as if they were trying to smuggle it in.

Before signing off, Dokoupil pretentiously lectured that “our collective inability to stop the menace of mass shootings though in this country counts for nothing less than a curse.”

On NBC Nightly News, chief White House correspondent Kristen Welker bemoaned the fact that “there has only been inaction when it comes to the issue of mass shootings” and that since the “federal ban on assault weapons expired. Mr. Biden repeatedly called for it to be reimposed” yet much to the dismay of the leftist media, the federal assault weapons ban has never been reimposed.

The networks' advocacy for more gun control was made possible by Angi on ABC, Xyzal on CBS, and Liberty Mutual on NBC. Their information is linked.

RACHEL SCOTT: Polls show the American people want change. 56 percent support an assault weapons ban. 86 percent support a red flag law, allowing authorities to temporarily take guns away from people determined to be dangerous. And 89 percent support background checks. Still, for most Republicans on Capitol Hill, those issues are nonstarters. [TO SENATOR RICK SCOTT]: The majority of Americans support expanded background checks. Why not support it?

SCOTT [TO SENATOR JAMES LANKFORD]: The majority of Americans support background checks. Do you support it?

Democrat Joe Manchin and Republican Pat Toomey have proposed a bill to expand background checks including for sales online and at gun shows, but it needs 60 votes to pass. Unless Senate Democrats change the rules to pass it with a simple majority. Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona won't do that.

SCOTT [TO SENATOR KRYSTEN SINEMA]: Senator Sinema, do you support changing the Senate rules in order —

SINEMA STAFFER: Sorry, guys.

SINEMA STAFFER: Thanks so much.

SCOTT [TO SINEMA]: Can you give us a comment about it?

SCOTT: In 2018, Texas Governor Greg Abbott did ask state lawmakers to consider a red flag law, but when Republicans refused, he backed down. And since then, Texas has actually loosened its gun laws, David.

ED O’KEEFE: The stalemate is part of a pattern that stretches back to the rise of mass shootings of the 1990s. Presidents signaled the country’s collective grief.

BILL CLINTON: The prayers of the American people are with you.

GEORGE W. BUSH: This is a day of mourning for the Virginia Tech community.

BARACK OBAMA: They had their entire lives ahead of them.

O’KEEFE: But then, very little is done.

TONY DOKOUPIL: Texas Governor Greg Abbott told reporters today that children are a blessing, a gift, he said, that was taken away from parents here in Uvalde too soon. And while that's certainly true, children are a blessing, guns are a right in this country because of 27 words the founding fathers tucked into the Bill of Rights in 1791. Now the question becomes, have the times and the weapons changed beyond the original scope? A discussion we may finally be ready to have in America. Children are a blessing. Guns are a right. Our collective inability to stop the menace of mass shootings though in this country counts for nothing less than a curse.

KRISTEN WELKER: In June, Governor Abbott signed seven laws aimed at easing gun restrictions including one that allows law-abiding Texans 21 or older to carry a handgun in public without a license. Federal law already allows 18-year-olds to buy the type of long gun the shooter used. Abbott today defending loosening restrictions.

GOV GREG ABBOTT: There are, quote, real gun laws in Chicago. I hate to say this, but there are more people who were shot every weekend in Chicago than there are in schools in Texas.

WELKER: There has only been inaction when it comes to the issue of mass shootings. In 2004, the federal ban on assault weapons expired. Mr. Biden repeatedly called for it to be reimposed. In 2013, after the Sandy Hook massacre, Congress came close to passing widely-supported expanded background checks but failed to do so amid opposition from Republicans and red-state Democrats. And in 2019, the Trump administration banned bump stocks, devices which increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, a move that had limited impact. Tonight, the senate's top Democrat said he’ll give his colleagues more time to try to find common ground but acknowledged the chances are slim. Lester?
