Soldier Tells FNC's Kelly: ‘We Would All Die For' Bergdahl

June 6th, 2014 11:38 AM

Last night on FNC’s The Kelly File, host Megyn Kelly sat down in an exclusive interview with six soldiers who served with Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

When Kelly asked them about accusations floating around that they’re just engaging in “swiftboating” and “playing politics” by speaking out, the men voiced their frustration. One soldier told her, “I don’t know how he [Bergdahl] felt about us, but we would all die for him and he left.”

It was a remarkable reaction from the men Bergdahl left behind. It was clear earlier in the discussion that their frustration with Bergdahl isn’t necessarily one of anger at him, but of concern for why he felt the need to leave them all behind, something thse men pointed out is not what a soldier of “honor and distinction” would do.

Bergdahl’s platoon leader made the point that speaking out about Bergdahl leaving has nothing to do with politics, but everything to do with wanting to know the truth behind why he left. He even went so far as to say that labeling him as a soldier who served with “honor and distinction” is a “spit in the face to everyone who joined the Army.” He reminded Kelly that Bergdahl’s family got their son back, but there are other families that aren’t so fortunate especially those who may have “died looking for [Bergdahl].”

Cody Full, who also served with Bergdahl, reacted to the accusations of "swiftboating" by insisting:

“When you're in combat zone it doesn't matter, if you are left, right, independent, jedi, whatever you want to be. Okay. The only thing that matters is you have an American flag on your shoulder. He's my brother, he's my brother, he's my brother. We're all gonna ride together, we're all gonna die together. And he, I guess for whatever reason -- I don't know how he felt about us, but we would all die for him and he left.”

The rest of Megyn Kelly’s exclusive interview with the men will air tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern on the Fox News Channel.

The relevant portion is transcribed below:

MEGYN KELLY: What -- what do you make of these reports that some White House aides are saying you guys are “swiftboaters” and even the president and his top aides are now saying anybody complaining about this their being political. This is political.

EVAN BEUTOW: We’ve made it completely clear and I think this is the most we’ve talk about it. This is not about politics. This about the fact Bergdahl walked away from us, went to try to find the Taliban and we know that for a fact. We were all there and there is not one person you can find who will say they don't believe that who was there. That is as clear as day. That's what we're trying to put out there. He's not a hero. He did not serve with distinction. That's a spit in the face to everyone who joined the army and anyone who died looking for him. What do you think – What do you think their families think? They don't get their loved one back like Bergdahl's family.

KELLY: Are you guys Republican, Democrats? Are you guys political people?

CODY FULL: Here is the thing. When you're in combat zone it doesn't matter, if you are left, right, independent, jedi, whatever you want to be. Okay. The only thing that matters is you have an American flag on your shoulder. He's my brother, he's my brother, he's my brother. We're all gonna ride together, we're all gonna die together. I don't know how he felt about us, but we would all die for him and he left.

GERALD SUTTON: And I considered him my really good friend and that hit me harder than some of the other guys. But it hit us hard.
