Scarborough's Campaign Advice: Democrats ‘Don’t Need to Play Fair’

June 27th, 2019 6:03 PM

For many Democrats and their media allies, the 2020 election is about one thing and one thing only: beating Donald Trump. Instead of focusing on the issues that the American people care about, they’ve made their main goal for 2020 to remove President Trump from office by any means necessary. During Wednesday night's debate, NBC moderators even pressed candidates on whether they would prosecute Trump if elected.

On a Thursday segment of Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough made that position very clear. Responding to a discussion about attacking Joe Biden for his past, he explained that in order for Democrats to beat Donald Trump, they “don’t need to play fair”:

SCARBOROUGH: And I've got to say, too, if I'm a Democrat, which I am not, I'm an independent, but if I were a Democrat, the thing that would have made me the angriest this week, Michael Steele, is the fact that you had Sunday shows saying that Joe Biden might have to drop out of the race because he's been accused of putting his hands on a woman's shoulders and, I mean, everybody talked about that forever. The press talked about it. There were all these stories. This past week a woman accused Donald Trump of forcible rape--

MICHAEL STEELE: Yep.

SCARBOROUGH: -- Not a Sunday show talked about it and papers, editorial writers didn't say is Donald Trump going to have to jump out of the race? That's why Democrats need to understand I'm sorry, I'm a former Republican, but I am saying this, Donald Trump doesn't play fair. They don't need to play fair either. They don't need to destroy their own.

For a so-called “journalist” who goes on television every single day and complains about Trump’s supposed “dirty politics,” Scarborough seems pretty content with those same tactics being used by politicians that he agrees with. The double-standard is stunning.

KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: I'm going to tell you right now, nobody wants a food fight. They don't want that. Our base doesn't want that. It's been very clear, what they want to do is they want to see a discussion about vision and how you're going to move the country, what are the issues you're going to talk about. The personal attacks is not going to go well with the base.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Any type. With Joe Biden it's shown over the past few months that nothing really has stuck, even some really damaging, you know, allegations, accusations or talks about his political past.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I do wonder if that's because we are in the age of Trump now and Democratic voters are going wait a second, we're going to disqualify one of ours?

BRZEZINSKI: This amazing guy who has all this experience.
