NewsBusters Podcast: Putin’s Simpletons at RT Bite the Dust as the War Rages on

March 7th, 2022 9:59 PM

NewsBusters deputy managing editor Nick “Night Train” Fondacaro and I began our week of guest hosting the NewsBusters podcast by highlighting the downfall of Kremlin-funded RT and why no one should be shedding tears.

Since 2005, RT (formerly known as Russia Today) has spent years using hot-button issues ranging from Occupy Wall Street to the Trump-Russia collusion hysteria to vaccinations to further inflame tensions and, while sprinkling in (or pouring in heavy doses of) pro-Russian talking points, destablize American discourse and our system of self-governance.

And, while some have rallied to RT’s defense, we noted that opposing RT is part of a long-standing opposition to state-funded media, ranging from NPR in the U.S. to al Jazeera in Qatar. Except, in this case, its propaganda was something far more sinister and amidst an unprovoked war.

We also discussed the heroic journalism done in the field by journalists from networks across the spectrum, such as CBS’s Charlie D’Agata and CNN’s Clarissa Ward. But, yes, we also dug into some areas in which the liberal media have failed in covering this war.

Here’s a hint: A lot of it has to do with energy.
