Levin Unloads on Media Over Trump Hysteria, Ignoring Treatment of Sailors by Iran; ‘Where the Hell Are the Media?’

May 17th, 2016 2:50 PM

Conservative talk radio host Mark Levin opened his Monday program by excoriating the media for their proverbial leap “into the sewer” by obsessively covering the Sunday New York Times piece on Donald Trump’s treatment of women and instead ignoring revelations that there’s disturbing details being withheld from the American people about the capture of U.S. sailors by Iran in January.

First turning his ire at the media and The Times, Levin predicted that “if I were your typical host, I’d run right to the first page of the New York Slimes from yesterday, go through their article where they’re doing an expose on Donald Trump where his ex-girlfriend came out or friend and says it’s all baloney and then spent an hour trashing the media.”

Levin pointed out that he wasn’t and since “about 98 percent of you hate the media,” he would not “do this show just to fill time because, if you believe it, three hours is barely enough to say what I want to say.”

As opposed to harping on Trump and going down into the mud, Levin affirmed that he’ll continue to focus on more important matters:

This show is about spreading the word of liberty and American and opportunity and conservativism and constitutionalism and everything that comes with it and doing it in a substantive, thoughtful and I hope entertaining way. Doesn’t mean we’re always going to agree, but I’ll be damned if I’m just going to jump into the sewer every time someone puts something on a website or every time the New York Slimes takes a shot. We’ll leave that to Fox, we’ll leave it to the websites. They know who they are.

While he didn’t do so in this monologue, the Levin TV founder offered this suggestion for future shows: “I think what I may start doing, though, is start calling out the most dishonest and stupidest headlines each week, whether it’s on websites or whether it’s on TV or wherever it is, then explain why.”

Shifting gears the story on Iran’s treatment of U.S. sailors back at the start of the year, Levin began reading aloud from writer Adam Kredo’s piece:

And over at the Free Beacon, Congressman: Classified Details of Iran’s Treatment of U.S. Sailors Will Shock the Nation. Remember? Remember when they took our sailors of the high seas? The classified details behind Iran’s treatment of several U.S. sailors who were captured by the Islamic Republic during a tense standoff earlier this year, writes Adam Kredo, are likely to shock the nation.

Kredo paraphrased Republican Congressman Randy Forbes (Va.) as revealing “in an interview that the Obama administration is still keeping details of the maritime incident under wraps” and “[i]t could be a year or longer before the American public receives a full accounting of the incident in which several U.S. sailors were abducted at gun point by the Iranian military.”

He then continued reading aloud from the Free Beacon’s site:

Forbes told the Free Beacon “I’ve a full classified briefing by military officials. It could be as long as a year before we actually get that released.”

Details of the abduction are likely to start an uproar in the nation and call into question the Obama administration’s handling of the incident which many experts say violated international and maritime law.

In the midst of sharing this story with listeners, Levin unleashed this short outburst at the liberal media for having no interest in uncovering what really happened in the Persian Gulf: “Why is everything being withheld form the Obama administration? I know why they want to withhold it, but by God, where the hell are the media? And Congress?”

How many out there like the media? Well, about 98 percent of you hate the media, but I don’t want to do this show just to fill time because, if you believe it, three hours is barely enough to say what I want to say plus Levin TV, making it four hours. This show is about spreading te word of liberty and American and opportunity and conservativism and constitutionalism and everything that comes with it and doing it in a substantive, thoughtful and I hope entertaining way.
