PBS Has Its GOP Enemies List In Hand: Will Dems Go After DOGE, Hegseth, Stephen Miller?

The Big Blue Wave washed over the Republican Party on Election Day, and the PBS News Hour on Friday confidently proclaimed President Trump’s “immigration agenda….has become a liability,” while demanding that Democrats enforce “accountability” on the administration. PBS already has its enemies list in hand last week.

But first, co-anchor Geoff Bennett stretched to make immigration control off-limits for Republicans going forward, even though his colleague anchor Amna Nawaz admitted on Election Night that immigration was "The only issue [exit poll respondents] said Republicans could handle better right now...."

Co-anchor Geoff Bennett: President Trump has replaced White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles with Stephen Miller, the hard-line architect of his immigration agenda, following that crushing midterm defeat. Immigration, once a political strength for Mr. Trump, has become a liability after two years of mass detentions, deportations, and armed agents in American cities.

Amna Nawaz: Mr. Trump pledged to work with the incoming Democratic Congress, but Miller's appointment signals a doubling down on his agenda. Miller has called Democrats a -- quote -- "domestic extremist organization."

Note the use of the word "quote" when reading what White House correspondent Liz Landers then said about another example of strong language, this time from a Democrat opponent of Miller.

White House correspondent Liz Landers: So [Miller] has made some of these recent TV appearances where he's called the Democrats the party of freaks, weirdos, losers, and crazies. So, even though President Trump claims that he is going to work with this Democratic majority that's incoming in January in Congress, we're already hearing from Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jeffries, who will likely be the speaker, calling Miller a reckless extremist today.

Apparently, no distancing word “quote” is necessary when a Democrat insults a Republican? Landers left out the spiciest part of Jeffries: “His presence in government should be eradicated like a malignant tumor. Fire him today.”

Besides that labeling oddity, the News Hour on Thursday showed how the wishes of PBS anchors and reporters dovetailed with those of a Democratic Party in a vengeful mood. Landers talked with Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), heir apparent to the chairmanship of the House Oversight Committee. Her question was a tee-ball: “On election night, you posted this two-word statement on X: ‘Lawyer up.’ Do you think the election results have given Democrats a mandate to investigate the Trump administration?”

Unbothered by Garcia’s blunt partisan threat to Republicans, Landers eagerly drilled down for details: “You have said that you have been preparing for these investigations for months and you're not starting from scratch here. What is the first thing you expect to investigate and how quickly will those subpoenas go out?” She demanded still more victims: “Are you going to investigate Elon Musk and his role in DOGE?.... What about impeaching Cabinet members like the defense secretary, Hegseth?”

Co-anchor Amna Nawaz also pressed newly elected Kansas Democratic Sen. Adam Hamilton on “accountability” in an interview Friday, citing Garcia.

Amna Nawaz: I want to ask you about something else voters made clear in this election, which was something like 90 percent of them said government corruption was a crucial factor for them in how they voted. The likely new chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia, told us yesterday that the first issue for them will be investigating the Trump family and what he called clear corruption. Do you agree with that approach?
