On Larry David's Show, Kimmel Implies Suspension Was Due To Trump Jokes

Jimmy Kimmel may be away from his ABC show for the summer, but he still managed to appear on Larry David’s HBO show Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness on Friday, where he tried to further the narrative that his September suspension was because President Trump can’t take a joke despite his suspension having nothing to do with Trump.

During a skit where George Washington, played posthumously by Rob Reiner, was announcing to a crowd his intention to not run for a third term. David played an audience member who was worried about unscrupulous successors, which was obviously meant to mean Trump, “He could use the presidency to enrich himself and his family. He could send troops into American cities to terrorize and even kill American citizens, all to distract from the fact that he's friends with a pedophile! He could attack universities, even the free press, silencing anyone who dares to criticize him.”

Washington himself personally led troops into Pennsylvania during his presidency to enforce the law, and, of course, David’s “even kill American citizens” retort is a wild oversimplification of what happened in Minneapolis.

Nevertheless, an ironic Kimmel chimed in, “Ah, come on. That could never happen.”

After David responded, “That's what you think,” Kimmel resumed, “Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him, as if he were a big baby?”

One more time, here is what Kimmel said that got him suspended 10 months ago:

We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.

The word “Trump” appears nowhere in that statement. Ironically, preliminary hearings in Tyler Robinson’s trial began three days after this show aired.

Trump has certainly criticized Kimmel and called for his firing, especially after the Melania-widow quip, but Kimmel has clearly not been silenced. As for David, he would continue his attacks on Trump by condemning him for cheating at golf.

Here is a transcript for the July 3 show:

JIMMY KIMMEL: Ah, come on. That could never happen.

DAVID: That's what you think.

KIMMEL: Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him, as if he were a big baby?

DAVID: A big baby.

KIMMEL: I don't see it.

REINER: What duly-elected president would do such a thing?

DAVID: An insecure, lying asshole! Who would even cheat at golf. He would cheat at golf!

CROWD MEMBER: Ah, that's sick!

CROWD MEMBER 2: That's vile.

REINER: What is golf?

DAVID: It's a game they invented in Scotland. It's a lot of fun.
