Stephen Colbert Castigates Trump: 'You're a Monster'

March 11th, 2020 2:32 PM

Eager to join the rest of the media in politicizing the coronavirus, on Monday’s CBS Late Show, liberal host Stephen Colbert sought to use the disease to attack President Trump.

Colbert commenced the thrashing session with an opening monologue in which he skewered Trump over his response to the coronavirus:

This is the first crisis of Trump's presidency that he did not cause himself and he is shanking it. Instead of monitoring the situation, Trump spent the weekend golfing. It seems insensitive, I know- you took the "ooo" right out of my mouth.

Colbert proceeded to brand Trump a “monster” for trying to place coronavirus in context compared to other illnesses:

…Then, with people concerned about the growing death toll of this outbreak, today Trump tweeted; "So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life and the economy go on. At this moment, there are 546 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!" Okay, let me think about that. You're a monster.

It is classic leftist behavior to name-call an opponent when they present a logical, rational argument in response to one solely built on emotion. Then, following a clip in which President Trump relayed medical experience within his family, Colbert kept the deprecation flowing:

No, no! No, no, no, he's right -- I would be very surprised if you understood it. I don't care how smart your uncle was, epidemiology is not genetic. You don't get your mother's eyes and your father's P.H.D. Knowledge does not get passed down. That's why, no matter how much we all know it now, future generations are going to have to learn for themselves that you're an idiot.

Colbert’s pianist Jon Batiste accorded: “That's a fact.”

Since Colbert believes he possesses more knowledge than the President, why doesn’t he share his solutions for combating COVID-19?

STEPHEN COLBERT: This is the first crisis of Trump's Presidency that he did not cause himself and he is shanking it. Instead of monitoring the situation, Trump spent the weekend golfing. It seems insensitive, I know- you took the "ooo" right out of my mouth. It does seem insensitive but remember right after Pearl Harbor was attacked, FDR was photographed playing skeeball. "December 7, 1941, a day that will live in fun for me!" Then, with people concerned about the growing death toll of this outbreak, today Trump tweeted; "So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life and the economy go on. At this moment, there are 546 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!" Okay, let me think about that. You're a monster.
