Kimmel to Sanders: 'McConnell Has Never Done the Right Thing'

Listen to the Article!

The true colors of leftist media figures never shine so bright as when they interview a Democratic politician. The incessant fawning and softball questions leave no doubt as to where their political allegiances lie. The latest example was Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live with guest Senator Bernie Sanders.

Kimmel could not resist the urge to lampoon Republicans in the House so long as Sanders was in front of him:

…House Republicans, stormed a private meeting in which some witnesses were being interviewed. And they refused to leave the meeting until, I don't know what they wanted, because there are Republicans included in this proceeding. But what is going, what is happening?

Sanders’ response was nothing short of his typical rants:

I think they're nervous. I think they're trying to disrupt the process. I think they understand that when you look at the record, you have a president who has tried to obstruct justice with the Mueller Report...I think the House will impeach him. I hope they do. The trial comes to the Senate. And I hope, I just hope that the Republican leadership allows for a fair trial and let the American people and the Senate make their decision.

If Sanders’ was truly in favor of allowing the American people to decide, perhaps he should hold off the impeachment cries until after the 2020 election. Failing to see the irony in the statement, Kimmel proceeded to smear conservatives:

Will the Republican leadership get to decide whether it's a fair trial? Doesn't it automatically have to be a fair trial in the Senate?

Sanders began: “No. No. It doesn't. I hope McConnell will do the right thing.” Kimmel was then able to make his own jab: “He's never done the right thing before, though.”

Kimmel hoped that if Senate Republicans "really look at the facts" they would vote to remove the President from office: “Do you think Mitt Romney is the key to getting some of these Republicans to really look at the facts instead of –”

Sanders proclaimed: “I hope that in this process some of these Republicans understand that the future of this country is more important than just Donald Trump.”

Watching this interview, it is difficult to distinguish who is the Democrat running for office.

JIMMY KIMMEL: This, this impeachment journey that we're on is getting weirder. I'm sure you know that today, a group of Republicans, House Republicans, stormed a private meeting in which some witnesses were being interviewed. And they refused to leave the meeting until, I don't know what they wanted, because there are Republicans included in this proceeding. But what is going, what is happening?

BERNIE SANDERS: I think they're nervous. I think they're trying to disrupt the process. I think they understand that when you look at the record, you have a president who has tried to obstruct justice with the Mueller Report. You have a president who has used his office, unconstitutionally, in violation of the emoluments clause to enrich himself. How do you- When you have a billion dollars, presumably, why would you use the office of President to make more money? You kind of think you have enough to do as President, but, and lastly, this Ukrainian business, where he is using national security money to try to get the Ukrainian government to give him dirt on a political opponent, so I think you got a strong case for impeachment. I think the House will impeach him. I hope they do. The trial comes to the Senate. And I hope, I just hope that the Republican leadership allows for a fair trial and let the American people and the Senate make their decision.

KIMMEL: Will the Republican leadership get to decide whether it's a fair trial? Doesn't it automatically have to be a fair trial in the Senate?

SANDERS: No. No. It doesn't. I hope McConnell will do the right thing.

KIMMEL: He's never done the right thing before, though.

SANDERS: Maybe I'm being overly optimistic here. But bottom line, is you have a President who, in my view, is probably the most corrupt President in the modern history of this country. And the American people need to hear from both sides, he'll have his defenders there, what he has done.

KIMMEL: Do you think Mitt Romney is the key to getting some of these Republicans to really look at the facts instead of --

SANDERS: Well, Jimmy, I'll tell you one of the things that has been really sad, and I say this not in a partisan way. Trump is Trump. But you would think, you have a lot of Republicans. I know a lot of these guys, in the Senate and House, who are not liars. They're not racist. They're not sexist. They're not homophobes. And yet they have been intimidated and frightened by this President, and with very few exceptions, they don't have the guts to stand up and tell the truth about what's going on. I hope that in this process some of these Republicans understand that the future of this country is more important than just Donald Trump.
