Another Univision Host Cheerleads for the Caravan

November 16th, 2018 5:25 PM

As the Central American caravans continue to roll through Mexico towards the U.S., some Univision hosts are acting like cheerleaders, including evening news anchor Jorge Ramos and morning show host Alan Tacher.

On Despierta América, Tacher celebrated the Mexican band Café Tacuba’s free performance for members of the caravan, and the message to “not criminalize” the group since “we are all immigrants”, deliberately conflating legal and illegal immigration.

ALAN TACHER, HOST, DESPIERTA AMERICA: The leader of the band urged Mexicans to open their hearts and help the immigrants who are trying to avoid this discrimination, this xenophobia and they ask not to criminalize them because at the end of the day we are all immigrants, and they are right. And look what a nice gesture of them to bring them a little joy, a little music which always warms the heart, there in the Mexico City shelters.

Tacher not only endorses the caravan’s supposed blanket right to enter the U.S., but echoes the idea that efforts to stop their entrance are tantamount to discrimination and xenophobia. The fact is that from the outset, members of the caravans have routinely clashed with law enforcement, flaunting both Mexican and U.S. immigration laws.

Instead of celebrating the caravans, Tacher and his colleagues should stick to reporting.

Below is the transcript of the complete above-referenced segment, as broadcast on the November 9, 2018 edition of Despierta América, on Univision.

Because another issue regarding the immigrant caravan because for right now it is a small pause for this situation here in the United States, it keeps being said.
